My stock AMD cooler is a bit noisy, and I haven't bought any tech for a couple weeks so I want to buy something.

I've had a bit of a look around on here but I really don't know what to go for as I've never bought a cooler before.

I don't really need a cooler as I'm not OC'ing and don't really want to as I don't know how (I'm sure to fuck it up lol) but the noise from the CPU fan gets on my nerves.

Any suggestions? Looking for something under $50 from that link above.

Oh, yeah, that will work. I wasn't aware the F7P also worked with AM2 and AM3 boards. It's a great budget cooler.

PS: I've just placed the order to pick up, should get an email in the next 20 minutes and then go for a quick drive. Thanks again

A bit fiddly to install but once I got the AMD lugs in place it was a cinch. Very snug in my case though, it's about 1mm above my RAM and the ends of the cooling rods are touching the mounting of the side fan on the case, but not the blades themselves.

Everest reads idle temps of around 38C, before it was 45C minimum (50 or more on a hot day).

Thanks again

What's the sound difference like? I'm curious because I'm also using the stock cooler, and while it doesn't get terribly hot, it sometimes gets loud.

Though I'm not really sure if it's the CPU cooler or the case fans.

It's completely silent until it ramps up RPM's. The fan is mounted on rubber, so there's very little vibration too.

Do my case fans always run the same speed then? They have little switches on the inside that I can turn between H, M, and L. I keep them all on H. They're not variable are they? When my computer gets hot, only my CPU fan RPM increases?

H = high
M = medium
L = low

If you have them connected to the PSU via molex, they won't have any throttling based on the temps in your case, but if you connect them directly to your mobo, they will. (The case fans.)

The CPU fan should automatically adjust based on temperatures, since it has to be connected to the mobo.

I knew it was high/med/low .

I don't know what molex is, but I'm pretty positive they're not connected to my mobo in any way. What would those cords look like? Where would they connect? Unless it was bunched with power/LED/audio/reboot etc I don't think they are.

Running AMD x4 965 btw.

The CPU fan is running silent now, though I can still hear the case fans but they're quieter. And my 5770 fan can be the noisiest when I play BFBC2 or something similar.

So I may need to look at some new case fans

Look on your mobo for a three or four pin connector, they should be labeled SYS_FAN1, SYS_FAN2, etc. The fan connectors should easily fit into them. They're generally located on the left and right sight of the mobo. (They look similar to the power/LED/audio connections.)

Can already tell you I didn't connect any of the sort.

ed: nah its most definitely my stock CPU fan. The one you suggest jaekus will work on my CPU, yes?

edit: ordered already.

Sorry for the delayed response... I hope you enjoy the cooler!

You should connect the fans if the noise bothers you.

Most likely be a tight fit, the lugs will be a little annoying to get on but once there smooth sailing. I was surprised at how big it is when I bought it, but it's very well made and has lowered my temps to below 40C

Yeah, that was deffo a bitch to put in. Used the intel screws because the AMD ones were too short :<

cpu at 37c idle, about to test under a bit o stress.

up to even 62 just playing tf2, that's not good. How do I get this thing to amp up?

62 is way too high for just playing TF2 - you should be getting those temps while stressing with LinX.

Are you sure its properly seated?

It should automatically speed up as soon as the temperate of the CPU starts rising.

yeah. i don't really see how it could be on wrong. fan is pointed up, which is right next to a case fan that blows out the top of my pc.

pc is currently sitting under desk. but not too far in. should be enough airflow.

After a while it's even getting 33c idle, so it's doing great there... but really hot while running tf2 :\

If the case fain is pushing air out of the case, then that might be your problem. The fan on the CPU should ideally be pointing downwards, as it will push air in the upwards direction, for the case fan to exhaust it.
