Uses fewer resources than MSN fyi. I prefer the UI of WMP - and it has better smoothing. Still use VLC for anything it won't play.

Meh 4GB ram is enough for MSN + what else

BluRay rips?

Not often.  I use it since VLC fails hard at high quality 1080p encodes.

A rip is a direct BluRay data file, so the entire 40-50GB.  An encode is when its processed into x264 and put into a Matroska container.

Just like a DVD rip is ~4.5GB and an XviD encode is around 700MB.

I dunno what youre doing then.  A typical DVD has 4.36GB of data on it.  When you "rip" it to your computer thats what you get.  Then its encoded to either XviD or x264 and brought down in size (most common is XviD 700MB in AVI container).
BluRays have anywhere from 20-50GB of data on them.  They are ripped in that size to your computer, then encoded to either 720p or 1080p.  The most common encodes (aka done by the Scene with an x264 codec and Matroska container) is 4.36GB 720p and 7.95GB 1080p.  Other better encoders can range their encodes anywhere from 5GB to 25GB, depending on the movie itself.

I swear I've repeated this like 30 times on this site lol

Yeah but if you "aquire" a DVDrip from the internet e.g. aXXo, I know it's encoded but it's still referred to as a DVDrip...

Oh wow, aXXo   He's worse than the scene.  Do yourself a favour and stay away from shitty groups like aXXo, he frequently re-encodes releases, losing significant quality.

And yes, poor sources/sites/groups label it as DVDrip at times.  Thats just because theyre shitty places/groups that have no idea what theyre talking about or doing.

aXXo is good quality as far as I am concerned... most of the movies I have "tested" from him were all I needed to enjoy the movie... I don't get you people who circlejerk over 1080p

If youre into blurry picture and poor audio then be my guest.  He encodes things twice, which is why any person who knows anything about encoding knows he's absolute garbage.  Try getting a SD x264 encode if you're not willing to get big files.  Theyre typically 2-3 times the size of 700MB XviD but 10-20 times the quality. 

Also, saying you dont get why I like something of highly, highly significantly better quality is just dumb.  I think its quite obvious why I would like getting movies in 1080p.
