To get a monitor with say 3 types of input: DVI, HDMI & VGA and hook for example a PS3 to the HDMI, a media PC to the DVI and a workstation to the VGA?

Like, once all connected. Do most monitors have some sort of switch input system? And if they do, must you do it via a computer?

I'm asking this because I just sold my gaming PC and want to buy a new one. But I can't actually afford one right now so I wanna just get the monitor (some 24" Samsung) and a PS3. Could I use the monitor solely for the PS3 until I bought the computer?

Now I feel retarded. Basically, is there a manual switch on the outside of most monitors these days that allow you to switch input?

Oh shit, just realised that even If I did have speakers I would have nowhere to plug them in.

So no sound, right?

You generally go through the monitor menu to switch inputs, and you can get adapters to plug the ps3 into speakers.

ive got vga hdmi scart and rca... can switch between them on the remote.
Oooh i've also got an ipod dock. go me.

I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

If your monitor is from a good maker (like samsung etc) then the switching should be auto but I would check with the makers website

My samsung with VGA and DVI has both and auto option and a source button to switch. Also some monitors with built in speakers will have an audio out, either digital or headphone style jack.
