As far as Battlefield 2 is concerned, it is a carbine. All the SpecOps main weapons are carbines.

ya its a carbine figured that out easily my assault rifle didnt become my weap and the way it looks its place it shoots is like attached to the side not right out the front and it looks like a compoud version of the american 1

According to the images in this site. The SCAR-L has a longer barrel than the H.

Usually carbines are short barrel versions of Assualt rifles right? Funny how it's the other way 'round in BF2...

Edit: I think that's the barrel thats longer in the SCAR-L...if i'm wrong and that's something else correct me

Like I said, the god damn barrel is longer in the SCAR-L than it is for SCAR-H. So how is it that SCAR-L can be classified carbine but H as assault rifle. Even if L uses 5.56 and H uses 7.62

The M4 is a carbine because it's a short barrel smaller version of the M16, but the SCAR-L

BF2 doesn't make any sense

Generally carbines are lighter and have shorter barrels and sometimes use smaller cartridges. The SCAR guns come with different barrel options, so the L is just pictured with one of the larger ones and the H with one of the smaller ones. I'll have to check in game and look at them.
Real life statistics:
The SCAR-H weighs 3.72 kilograms, fires a 7.62 cartridge, and comes with barrel lengths of 16 and 13 inches.
The SCAR-L weighs 3.55 kilograms, fires a 5.56 cartridge, and comes with barrels lengths of 14.5 and 10 inches.

I agree with T2. However, the scar-L is an assault rifle in real life and a carbine in BF2. Technically, in BF2, it's only a carbine by name, not charecteristics. Anything a spec forces uses is called a carbine. In bf2. However, it's definitely an assault rifle. Only a carbine by name. It's not a compact version of the SCAR-H, which is an assault rifle, so it's definitely an assault rifle. Just a carbine by name in bf2.
