I just installed it Friday and played it over the weekend. I like it better thn BF2 and curious why there isn't more people playing it. I still play BF2 and SF but it's nice to have a little shakeup in the BF2 gaming.

The best part IMO is the shoulder fired AA stinger kit and the IGLA in the back of pickup trucks. There would be a lot less jet whore problems in BF2 if they had put those in the game.

how exactly does a mod work? is it an addition to bf2 or standalone? what are the risks?

It's pretty much still like BF2 but faster and more evenly matched between kits and vehicles. There really is no vehicle the owns the rest like the J10 does in BF2. I can't name all the changes but here's a few that I liked...The APC's move about as fast as the buggies do in BF2 and pretty much everything moves faster, tanks included so it's not as slow and boring getting between flags anymore and you get right into the action. Infantry sprint was increased. Some Humvees and Blackhawks carry supply boxes.

Every kit carries a shotgun as a second weapon. Some kits have multiple rifles. One kit is a demolition kit and carries mines, claymores, C4, and a wrench. Chopper pilots have 4 air to air lockon missiles, others have air to ground lockon missiles, and jet fighter bombs are now 2 laser guided missiles.

There's also a ton of high quality maps and a few even better than Karkand. The Blackhawk Down map rocks along with a remake of some DC maps like Lost Village.

It's a stand alone expansion pack like Special Forces but IT'S FREE!! EA never offered me a free expansion...

I'm usually on it a few hours a day, its just I've been on vBF2 with my clan mates recently. NaW is by no means the best looking, smoothest playing mod, but its FUN

who makes these mods and why do they give em for free? i can imagine alot of work went into it and i doubt this type of dedication is the result of volunteers. also, are they allowed to use BF2's source code?

I'm new to NAW myself so I really have no idea who made it all. I suppose they do this as a hobby.

There are three map packs to download along with the stand alone and there are two client fixes for Blackhawk Down and Market Gardens. You have to download them all seperately. It is a huge download for some (2 hours total) but others were able to get in in less than half an hour.

I´m playing it for three days now, and it´s awesome !
36 new maps, all the cool new weapon features and it´s all for free ! Love it !

I still cannot believe that EA does not allow for these maps and mods to be played on ranked servers. If you ask me...the game could do well if EA showed some respect for all the modders out there.

for map packs u can get them at file planet, they dont use normal bf2 maps, they have BETTER maps

Before we had BF2 and EA Games wonderful ranking system we had an open Battlefield 1942 and BFV moding community that produced amazingly awesome FREE mods for the downloading. EA Games ranking system has smashed much of that community intentionally to control you and your money with $9.99 patches containing three maps and such. LOL.

Well If you want a look at the past and the amazing skill and talent out there in the mod community FOR FREE go get this mod and test drive it. You will be shocked! 39 new maps with new weapons and new vehicles with new physics.
