System Specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo [E8400] 3.0 Ghz, Freezer7Pro HSF cooling
Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro
Graphics Card: XFX 9800GT 512MB @ stock speeds/clocks (Drivers: 197.45)
RAM: Corsair XMS2 4GB @ 800Mhz
Hard Drive: WD Caviar 250GB
Power Supply: OCZ StealthXStream 600W
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit)

Problem:
COD4 instantly crashes on startup.  Can't even load into the game, iw3mp.exe stops working instantly.  I recently updated my video card drivers to 197.45, haven't made any other drastic system changes.

Worth a shot.  I'll see if it helps.

Or try running as administrator? (If you weren't doing that already..)

^ Try that, also 32 bit compatibility.

Same results after the re-installation, been running the .exe as an administrator.  How do I run it in 32-Bit compatibility? I've tried "Compatibility Mode" with WinXP SP2/3 and Win Vista SP2, no luck with either.

That's the same thing, just different wording.

Erm, tried rolling back to your previous drivers? Unless they were causing a major issue.

Found the problem, detailed here: http://www.overclock.net/pc-games/57348 … antly.html

It's a quirk with COD4, you need to have a mic plugged in (at least when using RealTek onboard).  I had unplugged earlier when I dusted my PC and forgot to plug it back in. Put it back in and COD4 booted up with no problems.

Thanks for your help though, karma will be awarded shortly.
