enjoy the weekend, take a rifle out . . .
i work all weekend 10 hour shifts both days
also i think as my first pistol i'll get a ruger 22/45 mark III, there's a guy i know locally that has one he doesn't really want anymore... he's barely used it and it's pretty much like new for $200, comes with 2 magazines as well

Why do you need Hornady XTP?rdx-fx wrote:
Last box of factory ammo I bought for my .45 was a box of Federal 230 grain .45 Auto, for $22/50 rounds (or $0.44 per round)krazed wrote:
because paying $30 /20 rounds makes me very sad in the pants
Or, if you reload;
- Bullets: Hornady 230gr XTP HP $199.00 /1000rd
- Primers: Federal Large Pistol primers $32.00 /1000rd
- Powder: 1 lbs Alliant Unique $23.00 /1000rd
- Brass: (Federal 100rds, reloaded 10x per) $32
total of $28.60/100 rd for me to reload
or
$44/100rd for good factory ammo.
For range use lead bullets are fine. My reloads work out at ~A$17/100, so say U$14/100.
If I could be bothered to cast my own bullets it would be more like A$7/100.

Those 22/45's are terrific fun. I shot a couple hundred rounds through one the last time I went home to see my parents. I can't say that I like it better than the normal Mk III's in terms of feel, but it would be great to get if you have future aspirations of having a 1911.krazed wrote:

That would be a good place to start, much more versatile than a single-six and you'll be able to sell it no problem.-CARNIFEX-[LOC] wrote:

Plus there are loads of parts available, and .22 is cheap.

Because the difference in price between the XTP hollowpoints and 230gr ball is negligible here.Dilbert_X wrote:

And, it's not a match pistol - if it's going to be used for anything other than practice, it's going to be throwing 230gr XTP HP, so "train as you fight" so to speak.
(When you're hiking, it's easier to explain a .45 pistol to the local Fish & Fur badges, than a 'hunting rifle' too)
If I wanted to go the plated lead bullet route, I'd go with the Rainier 230gr rounds, at $37 for a box of 250 rounds. Fairly close to your $14/100 extimate.
Plain lead works fine for me, but if I were shooting jacketed then I'd want to practice with jacketed too.

try the walther forums.TSI wrote:
Okay, so I inheirited a starter's pistol, and I'm trying to get some more info on it.
It's stamped with the Walther logo, also says it's a Record Mod. A.
Try as I might, I can't find anything on it. Anyone know anything/where I can find out more?

yeah i think i will get that 22/45 to start with
also i bought a pellet pistol yesterday at canadian tire
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/5 … ?locale=en
took that silly red dot garbage thing off of it though, it's really quite accurate considering how cheap it was

Does it also reload by opening the slider up 180 degrees?

Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
indeed it does, and after googling... it seems to be
but at a much reduced cost and greater availability

I STILL don't understand the point of a semi-auto UZI... I mean, the thing isn't exactly the most accurate / goodlooking thing in the world...RAIMIUS wrote:

Have you shot an Uzi?FloppY_ wrote:

Uzi's are actually pretty cool. They're much cheaper than an MP5 and can easily, quickly and somewhat affordable be change to different calibers, like 9mm to 45acp in one minute. They're simple, easy to maintain and repair. Part's aren't crazy expensive or hard to find either. They're great pistol caliber rifles.

So I have a dilemma. I recently came across a new M82A1 with scope for a reasonable price. Basically one of the gun shops I frequent ordered it for a guy, but when it got to the shop the guy decided he didn't want it. They've offered it to me, scope and all and I'm looking at the pros and cons of taking their offer
Pros:
-Awesome gun and one of the few modern rifles I'm actually interested in
-It's one of the few modern rifles I can actually expect to hold its value
Cons
-Even as a deal it's still expensive as hell
-Ammo is also expensive even when shooting reloads
-Not many places I can shoot it at since I don't have my own land
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Fun rifle. Is the scope any good? If you're looking to get into ultra long range shooting there are better cartridges and better rifles, not that the m82a1 is bad, it's just nowhere near the best. If you just want it for fun, go for it. I own a .50ae Desert Eagle that serves no purpose other than fun. Some guns are just fun.
You're looking at $3-4 per shot with commercial or surplus ammo.

It makes a ferocious BOOM, puts large holes in paper targets, and is a 1.5MOA system.mcgid1 wrote:

If this works for you, go for it.
Personally, I'd go;
- $1375 on a Surgeon action
- $750 to have Krieger fit a barrel and brake to the action
- $875 for an AICS 1.5 'stock' (or a McMillan A-4 + bottom metal using the AICS magazines)
- $1250 for your favorite optics (Zeiss for me, as they own Schott Glasswerks that makes the glass for a few of the more pricey brands)
- $750 for misc parts (trigger, rings, bases, sling, bipod, case)
There's $5000 well spent, and you still have another $5000 left to spend on ammo (about 6000 rounds worth for me).
And, properly assembled, the above rifle will win target/practical matches, hunt any game animal in the northern hemisphere, or just shoot little tiny groups at sickeningly long ranges.
Versus
$10,000 for a M82A1.
But, in the end, as Reciprocity effectively said, 'It's like owning a Desert Eagle .50AE pistol. Makes a big boom, is fun, screw practicality'
If you've got the spare change to spend on a fun conversation piece at the range, go for it.
Well, you could always use it to kill terrorists 2 miles away.
Make X-meds a full member, for the sake of 15 year old anal gangbang porn watchers everywhere!
I've gotta say, custom everything and have the best rifle imaginable would be awesome, but then an M82 would pretty much be the coolest thing in the entire world.rdx-fx wrote:

EDIT: Also the Surgeon looks boring. And crucially doesn't fire .50

Still rather have a L96A1.
Curiously they are available in Aus but not the UK.

.50 are for pussies, real men use 20x110mm Hispano-Suiza.

Accuracy International decided not to market it in the UK, at least that was the case a while ago.ghettoperson wrote:
