Since I can't afford a brand new i7 rig I'm thinking of upgrading my current processor which is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+, to something a bit more substantial, Q-core preferably. My motherboard is an ASUSTeK Crosshair, and given that I have no idea what fits in what, I'd like some input please!

Thanks.

Edit: Found this on eBuyer

I got this a month or two ago.

It's a bit more expensive then the one you're looking at but it is pretty damn amazing.

Depends what you want to be doing really, the 955 is alot better at gaming but the 9850 appears to be better if you model or anything like that.

You can try to unlock the extra two cores and turn it into a quad core, but I'm not sure how high the success rate is.

Finray says that my 4670 is bottlenecking my comp atm. So it would make sense to upgrade both?

It really depends on the mother board, if it is AM2+ it will work.

I have a 5770, it's really not a bad card, I'm running BC2 on max graphics 1920x1080

I just had a look for it on my usual UK sites, couldn't find it to compare.

EDIT: scrap that found it for about 15-20 pound more

Not to sure if its worth the bang for your buck.

But the mobo supports AM2+, so he should be able to use the AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition or the AMD Phenom 9850..., right?

This is the best I could find on ebuyer. It is OEM so you won't receive an HSF.
