Right, I'll be buying a new laptop within a couple of months, and naturally the mac vs. PC dilemma reappears. First of all, if you read the title and ran off to 4chan to find a "LOL NO RIGHT CLICK" or similar image, and now have its address copied on your clipboard, please refrain from pressing ctrl+v. Thanks. Also, fuck off.

Right, now to my preferences and usage. To be completely honest - call me gay, whatever - I care about the exterior of my laptop, I enjoy nice designs and therefore I do not want a Lenovo ThinkPad. Secondly, I rarely ever play games anymore, and if I do it'll be Football Manager (available for mac) or a source engine game - which, afaik, are/will soon be mac-ready. However, I do use a sports trading software that is 'windows only', and thus we arrive at my first question: Is there a Wine (Linux) equivalent for macs, that enables the use of Windows programs without having to bootcamp? And if so, is it any good?

As for price/performance, it's obviously something to take into consideration. It's not top of the list for me, priority wise, and I'm really most interested in the Windows v OSX comparison. However, it's not something I'll ignore, so if someone wants to explain exactly how much better a windows-based laptop would be hardware wise - go ahead.

Cheers

If you are a posh rich prick, then get a Mac.

Ergo, get a mac. <3

oh wow. Didn't know they did OSX.

So - has anyone tried this? Does it work at all - is it any good or just a total lag-fest? I'm not going to use any heavy programs, but I need it to be fairly smooth.

I, personally, would never buy an Apple laptop. Not because they're overpriced - when I buy my next laptop I'll probably pay more than I'd do for a Macbook - but because they're built like shit for the price. A nice exterior isn't worth much if it's falling apart on the inside. A HP/Lenovo with similar specs for the same price will quite certainly be far more durable.

Just my two cents, do with them what you wish.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I'm really indifferent on this. If you don't play games then it does not matter much what OS you use. As for performance, if you are not playing games what would be the most performant thing you would be doing? Video editing? Watching movies?

I've found the Dell Studios to be quite sexy and work great.
