this is kind of on the same topic, but don't want to overtake his ?

mine is: I currently have a 9800gt 512mb, should I upgrade to a different nvidia card (nvidia only mobo. i fail), or get another 9800gt for sli?
would like to keep it around $100-$150.
game to be played: All Points Bulletin

Also, if I get another 9800gt, will it be ok to get a 1gb one, or is that asking for trouble? and do they need to be from the same manufacturer (Evga)?
Just because it has an Nvidia chipset and is SLI capable doesn't mean you have to run an Nvidia card.  And if you did go the SLI route (which I personally wouldn't) it doesn't need to be the same brand but I would go for the 512 version (not sure if the 1 gig would even work).

I'm not sure it would really be worth the cash to upgrade from the 9800GT to a 5770.  Yes it will be better but not worth the cash IMO. I would wait till you can jump to at least a 5850.

really? o0

so what would you recommend on the ati side then? idk if 2 9800gts are better than 1 5770, but the 5770 is probably as far as i would go since its over the top of my range, but by just a little.

btw prototype if you want to give me the boot out of your thread and make my own I will, just seemed to be pretty much the same topic

go with the sli if your psu and mobo can handle it. you will be able to work out any quirks and get better performance.

if you can get a good deal on an 9800GT then it should be a little better than a 5770 (as best as I could compare using a 4870 which is close to a 5770).

TDOG, no worries man, your questions are close enough to mine and it looks like we both got our answers

for once i created a topic that did not get closed or end with me being flamed for asking stupid/inappropriate questions, so its win win

Thanks proto, and I have just one ? since it kind of got answered then pushed aside.

with a 1gb work with a 512mb, or do they need to be the same size?

Also what wattage would you recommend for 9800 sli? would a 530w psu cover it fine?

currently have an Amd x2 4800+ dual core, 2gb DDR2 800 ram (tho want to up it to 3-4gb some point soon, and 2 hard drives, 80bg and 500gb

Also (so much, ikr?), I was looking at 260s and there about the price of a 9800GT, should I just get one of them? and would the 530w psu still work the above rig?

What are the recent opinions on the new NVIDIA GTX 400 series?  Would a GTX 465 perform similarly to a HD 5850?  (Newegg has them for cheaper..)

you would be better off with one 260 than (2) 9800 GT in SLI

with a 500 or 530 watt power supply you should be ok but every PSU is different
you will need to know how much voltage is on each RAIL since the over all voltage doesnt really determine anything

your best bet would be to buy a 750W PSU and a 260 and you will be golden for quite a while, at least until the the new MOH or BF3 game comes out

cheers

As I said before, I had a 320W Dell PSU that beat most 500W PSU's when it came to power on the 12(v) rail. When discussing PSU's, don't even look at the wattage anymore. Brand is probably a better indication (e.g. 350W Zalman over 450W B-brand any time), given that you just want to make a quick estimate without looking at detailed rail specs.

where i live, it is the humidity that makes it worse.

it gets between 85 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit but the humidity levels are usually betwen 75 and 100 percent day and night because i live on an island, between those temps and humidity there are bugs, snakes and spiders that would make Steve Irwin quiver in his knickers

the only time I go out during the day is to buy supplies or if the waves are good (which isnt often)

having lots of Guinness, good food, fresh dank and a decent gaming rig is key to my summer time survival
