Hi people!

PROBLEM:
- THE FIRST GAME (at Windows just started, if I don't reboot my PC it won't happen anymore) I JOIN I get when I hit the button to partecipate: 5-10 seconds of HD SWAP + LAG + SOUND LOOPING and then or I get "CONNECTION LOST" and I have to rejoin or I manage to join.
- in the middle of a game, after usually ~30 min. I have been playing I get the same thing... often when I die in a crowded situation --> 5-10 seconds of HD SWAP + LAG + SOUND LOOPING and then or I get "CONNECTION TO SERVER LOST" and I have to rejoin or I manage to continue the game with a bit of lag in the next seconds.

I have tried EVERYTHING... downclock, all the drivers (audio, video, chipset), all possible Windows performance settings, all possible audio\video game settings, swap\paging file settings, disable wireless zero configuration utility, EVERYTHING!

Please, help!

Any chance your overheating???

That would be my guess.

Try playing hardwired instead of wirelessly.  I had lag issues when I was wireless.  IMO, if you are playing online, do not use a wireless connection, 54Mbps is not enough bandwidth.

How much RAM do you have?

Is your sound card drivers updated?

How old is your Hard Drive?

What are your system specs?

These are my hardware specs:
Daily: MB MSI Neo2 Platinum@3X HTT (1.C TCCD) CPU AMD Athlon 64 3700+@270*11=2970Mhz (1,45V) C by Zalman 9500L RAM 2*512Mb GeIL Ultra-X PC3200@DDR540 DC 2,5-3-3-7-7 (2,8V) GC Asus V9999GE 256MB DDR3 @Ultra 16/6 415/1130Mhz (84.43)  AC RealTek ALC850 (3.86) + Creative 5.1 (T5400) HD 2*Maxtor 80GB SO W XP (SP2) PS Enermax EG465AX-VE SPi R: 26s 3DMark R: 6020 (05) UNDER (03)

I want to underline stability like that, so I'll post the next screenshots, but I tried also at default and underclocked, so it is not overclock related:

http://digilander.libero.it/m4puni/Sandy/23.jpg

http://digilander.libero.it/m4puni/new_6800_3.jpg

- OVERHEATING IS IMPOSSIBLE, I am well cooled, anyway I have even tried with ALL my components UNDER default. SAME THING (anyway it does it every FIRST GAME at Windowsn just started so overheating is impossible for sure).

- I have 1 GB of RAM, no swap at all during the game except for those occasions (of course).

- I AM NOT ON WIRELESS, TA ISDN MODEM (I disabled zero configuration because someone told me it could have fixed it).

- As you can see drivers are up to date but I have tried also with old alternatives.

Thanks a lot for your assistance.

Crash to Desktop when joining game

If you find you cannot join ANY game at all without it crashing, then it is probably a problem with your RAM. Most of the time this can be fixed however. The most common problem is that people have dual-channel mode enabled on their RAM. BF2 doesn't like this, so you'll need to goto your BIOS and change the settings to disable Dual Channel Mode.

Crash to desktop when starting

Step 1: Go to your BF2/Mods/xpack/settings folder in Explorer and look for the file: VideoDefault.con. Open the file then click open with notepad.

Step 2: Look for the following line:
renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0

Change to read:
renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1
Hit ctrl+s or save from the menu.

Patching Failed Message

Thanks to Ragnar 11651173

Step 1: Execute Patcher, Choose language, wait for welcome screen, don't hit continue.

Step 2:go to your documents folder and to this location C:\documents\YOUR USERNAME\local settings\temp

Step 3: Next look for a folder which looks like {BLAH....} lots of numbers and chars. Go into that folder structure and copy the files in it (e.g. patch.exe, all the files) to a folder where you can execute them (e.g. create a dir named C:\temp)

then open a commandpromt (type "cmd" in run/execute at startmenu) and go to your new created folder with the patchdata. Execute the with the following line (edit to your installfolder location of course):

patch.exe "c:\FolderWhereBF2 Is"

Watch the magic happen.

Takes a long time to login

Delete your account and retrieve it again, it may be wise to make a backup of your settings first however.

Keep getting the "Connection To Server Has Been Lost" Message

Apparently this can be fixed by "repairing windows"

To do this, put in your windows setup CD and click Repair, This should keep all your files but reinstate windows.

Please try this at your own risk, thanks.

Crouch Key not working

Step 1: Navigate to Documents and Settings\WindowsName\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\Controls.con and open it with notepad
Step 2:go to the search  and type 'crouch'
Step 3: Once you find it, go to the end of the command. It should say ID_KEY 'something'
that something is what you want to press to crouch. Therefore if you say, leftshift, it would look like this..
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PICrouch IDFKeyboard IDKey_LeftShift 0 0

Since I only have 1 profile created in BF2, it gives me the name 0001. If you had more than 1, the 2nd profile folder would be called 0002. This goes in chronological order, starting at 0001 with the OLDEST profile.

Peace Boris

1 Gig of RAM is not that much...

The post below explained how to make a COMPLETE uninstall and reinstall of the game...
Use it if this is your last chance... It takes time. I am happy I never had to make it, even though I've had problems with BF2 in the past...

bf2 has never had a dual channel problem has it? i've never had trouble with it.
also it sounds like your wireless is screwing up. wireless is NOT meant for gaming... it's too unstable too much interference.. get cabled up and i can 99% surely say this problem will make it'self scarse

also bf2 used MORE than 1GB of ram, it runs happy on 1.5GB and will love you if you have 2GB

While it might be a latency issues or some other problem with the wireless, the 54mbps is not the problem considering the broadband connection is likely 5mbps or less

Even then, it might just be that specific router.  I've played wireless before and had no problems with lost connections.

I have same prob as yours, just been too lazy to fix it. But do have an idea as to what is probably happening, I split my page file, 1 GB on primary Sata channel 4 gb on secondary. I would have to say that when you have lock ups that do not crash either the application or the OS then you are dealing with a page file issue, which directly interprets to a hard drive issue. Have you recently performed a defrag with a reindex?
I know what will fix it completly, is to uninstall the app and all its settings with a full regedit search. Then defrag, checkdsk, then reinstall of apps and patches. Takes a bit, but usually clears all the little wierd issues. And is certainly less destructrive to your OS settings as a reinstall would be.

Man, I just bought 2GB of RAM... I hope it will fix it and I'll let you know.

Need your box specs, Motherboard, CPU, Graphics, Amount of RAM. The crashing to desktop could be a problem with video. The connection problem depends on multiple things, but it sounds like you are running a dual core and if that is the case then go to this link http://www.robpol86.com/Pages/imagecfg.php and follow the instructions.

Have you tried uninstalling the application using the delete saved settings option, then running a defrag and chkdsk to clean up your drive. Then reinstall BF2.  Whenever I reinstall, I usually apply the patches sequentially, 1.1, 1.2, 1.21...
You say you have been playing since September which would mean a pretty fragmented page file as BF2 does use a significant amount of virtual memory. Also before you reinstall the app, uninstall the video driver and download the latest from the Nvidia website.

I have the same problem - occasioanlly when connecting to a server will have a lot of hard drive activity and then a "connection was lost". However, it has gotten much better the last few weeks though. I doubt it has anything to do with your system specs. I'm running AMD64 4000+, 2GB RAM, 75GB Raptor, and a 7800GT. It *may* have something to do with the swap file as one poster suggested above. Currently I have a 256MB swap file on my OS partition and a 4GB swap file on the secondary partition.

LOL! With a Raptor and 2GB of RAM you get the same problem... damn... this game must really be rewritten . Let's hope in patch 1.3 then.
