This has been bothering me for a while now, occasionally when i headshot someone all that happens is i get wihte dust on the target's head but no kill WTF??

One time quite recently i was playing US on Wake island and i got into the chopper and i got shot out by a cheeky sniper so i thought right im gonna get the baseraping f**k next spawn. Anyway im thinking yes, easy kill, im gonna get the baseraping chicken shitter so i go up see him then whip out my pistol unload a whole mag to his face and he just turns around with 100% health and kills me, FUCK FUCK.

It also happens occasionally when im knifing.

probably just bad luck or weird ping etc, unless this happened more than 3 or 4 times iar. in which case he's an uber l33t h4xor noooooob.

thte only thing that piss's me off is when you get right up behind someone then you knife them, you get the puff of smoke and no kill

WTF

soooo many times has this happened to me i give up and just shoot them now that i have my expert knife badge, but i noticed since 1.12 its gone all screwed up

Since I have gotten the expert knife...there is no need to use it. I have gotten the puff of smoke from 3 stabs in a row now, and they turn and shoot me, liked I tapped them on the shoulder and asked them too. Ridiculous. Just shoot them. Get my pistol kills that way now.

I once stabbed someone twice in a row and all I got for it was smoke.

However, the REALLY annoying one was a few days ago. I was on Mashtuur as a sniper, I was sitting on some steps and a guy in a humvee on the other side stops a couple of meters away from me to shoot a guy on our side he noticed. (He hadn't noticed me)

So, whilst he's firing away at the other guy in his humvee gun turret I unload 5 shots into his head with the L96A1, he wasn't moving. I got five puffs of smoke for my effort.

He then moves to the drivers seat and drives off, still without seeing me.

That really got my goat.

Yep many a time it now takes 2 swipes with a knife. Rediculous.

Happens often for me and it's really annoying as I try to knife down a support-guy about to fire his light machinegun but I hit him first -> that white dust show up but no kill, he just owns me

I've always assumed the puffs were to simulate kevlar impacts. I can't remember if I've gotten them when hitting unarmored folks or not though....

You can get the puffs using just about any weapon. You're just more likely to see it when up close with the knife, I know I have. I have no idea why the hits complained of don't connect, probably some lag issue.

really pisses me off to stab a GL user in the back. and then turns around and shot me in 1 bloody 3-burst

Like i said in an other topic...the Coding of BF2 done by EA/Dice really pissed me off in their latest patches

yer the smoke thing happends ruffly 50% of the time i stab sumone and i play on servers where i get pings around 30 so it cant exactly be a lag issue

Yeah, after getting the expert knife the knife is all right on last gasp - but never any over time, unless you want to show off. Since I got my expert pistol only a few days ago (went pistol mad), I am now pulling it out more and more to finish people off, or even just for fun. This has actually made me feel engineer could be the second best kit (after the medic) as you have the body armour, the shotguns, and the pistol for (my favourite) out-sniping snipers! Ah, good times, good times. If anyone wants any tips on how to get the expert pistol - just keep shooting and have a medic following your every move (maybe even two). It may help if you blackmail or bribe them first!

EDIT: Also, the puff happens when you are going to knife them, and they just move away at the last moment. Try to click, then rush at them - you will get your kill if you do it right! Practice on singleplayer!

haha i feel for you! on many an occasion i have headshotted an unsuspecting guy from very close range with a sniper rifle, only to see a greenish puff...of dust?! i find it kinda funny and i usually laugh when it happens. its not funny anymore when he turns around and empties a 30-rnd mag into my ghillie suit

I've had that happen too many times myself... real annoying, dumped a clip of pistol ammo into an SF that was killin our base and got puffs of dust off him... then he turned around and dumped 3 shots into me.. I wasn't so lucky.

yeah it sucks so bad its just WTF as you sit there and wait another 15 seconds to get back into the action, but seriously i hope expert pistol isnt as lame i finally got the amount of kills global so now im going to go for it, prob going to go sniper and then finish people of with the pistol i see nyte and citizen one doing it all the time so ill try it out my self.

But seriously i wish this would be fixed in the next patch, for people trying to get expert knife now or even basic its going to be so annoying for them just seeing the puff of smoke and no kill.
