Anyway, my trusty Microsoft Intellimouse is on its last legs.. if any more than 30cm from the receiver it skips and doesn't record clicking, and chews through batteries like nobodies business. I would get another one, but I suppose now could be a good time to try alternatives.

Musts:

-Wireless (shut up)
-Ergonomic (i.e it's shaped around a human hand, not a brick)
-Extra buttons (More than LMB/RMB/Middle)
-Rechargeable would be nice

Other notes:

When I'm playing games, I like my sensitivity quite high. This makes it easy to make drastic changes in my aiming, but very fine precision aiming is difficult, since the lowest amount I could move the mouse moves the crosshairs 3-5 pixels across the screen. If I put the sensitivity down, I get more fidelity with precision aiming, but I have to drag my mouse halfway along my desk for just a 180 turn. Is more DPI the cure to this? Does it enable finer precision while still being able to have a high sensitivity?

Also looking for a mouse mat, a large, hard surfaced one. Any ideas?

Higher DPI means physically yes the mouse gets you higher precision, but more likely even now it's human error. I'm not putting you down or anything, the fact is it is very difficult to consistently make movements more precise than say an 1800 DPS mouse can pick up on high sensitivity. Higher DPS does not mean you will be able to make the mouse move the 2 pixels you want it to on high sensitivity, though the mouse would be more capable of doing so.

Anyways I feel like I have to champion the G500 regardless of this wireless nonsense. tbh wireless narrows down your options pretty severely, comes down to the Razer/Logitech war.

Wireless razer mamba here

I notice no difference between this and my old G5 in terms of anything that would be related to a wired/wireless connection. not having to fuck about with the wire to make sure I don't get any pull is nice and with wireless it makes for a good improv remote

Anyway finray stop being stupid you don't NEED wireless. It just severely narrows down your choices. Really it's either a G5v2 (unweighted, wtf uzique), mamba, mx518, or a deathadder, and a steelseries cloth mat.

from what i gather optical sensors work better on cloth, lasers work better on hard surfaces. may vary depending on mice so i recommend doing a bit of research on the mouse you plan to get.

Razer Mamba looks really nice. Shame it's £90

Anyway, I don't want a debate about wireless/non wireless. Truth is the difference now-a-days is negligible, and the convenience to me is a necessity.

E: I'd rather get a solid mousemat, because my wrists tend to sweat a lot, and I can't imagine how a surface that can absorb liquid after a month use would smell.

Apparently when wireless mice came out they were inaccurate and skipped lots and weren't as good as wired mice, and this idea has stuck, even though the tech in them has vastly improved. For example I got this mouse I'm using now like 4 years ago, and it's been perfect, never had a problem with it, apart from when batteries were on low power, and only now it's starting to die, probably due to old age.

Yeah bro, getting good batteries (like Duracell) they would last months. Seriously, I could go at least 3-4 months without having to change them. Get cheap ones and it was a month at the most, which is still fantastic.

The whole reason I wasn't put off by the mamba's wireless, besides the fact that you can make it wired, was because it has none of the drawbacks, except for having to put it in its charging dock every few nights.

Also I can have up to 5600 dpi, and I use 800. dpi is useless. get a low-medium sensitivity already
