so a PC I built a while ago for someone stopped working. It looked like the PSU was broken, so I put a different PSU in the PC and it worked fine again. Sent the broken PSU off for RMA and thought that was that. A few days later I get an e-mail from the store saying the PSU is fine and they're sending it back. I put it back in the PC it came from and sure enough it still doesn't work. So I put it in my own PC and suddenly it does work.

I am highly confused. Help me out here.

does the other board have loads more components plugged in or something?
I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

His PC simply doesn't turn on. Insufficient PSUs don't cause PCs to simply not turn on. Also his PC probably has a third of the power requirements of mine.

could be motherboard? damaged connectors on his mobo or damaged leads? are you using the same power leads on your pc if it's a modular psu?

I have absolutely no idea what it could be other than the mobo, but might I suggest it could be helpful to name the make/model of the components used?

Look for a damaged power connector coming from the case? Watch for fans to spin?

My PC: Gigabyte ex-58-UD3R, corsair tx850w
his PC: Gigabyte EP43-DS3L, PC Power & Cooling Silencer 500 watt

My PSU In my PC: works
His PSU in my PC: works
My PSU in his PC: works
His PSU in his PC: No signs of life whatsoever. No fans spinning up for a split second. No motherboard lights. Nothing.

Tried connecting everything as normal, and also only connecting the mobo and the cpu
Tried using a different cable between the wall and the PSU

He says it just wouldn't turn on one morning without any signs of malfunctions beforehand. I'm inclined to believe him.

Short green and a black on the PSU to test it. I know it works in another computer but at least you can have the feeling you accomplished something.
