My parents are wanting a new tv, currently we have a 6 year old 32" Sony CRT in the nice room, and they want a new one.

Wish list:

42"+
Not plasma
120Hz
LCD/LED
Budget of £600-£650

Karma for help

Thanks in advance

Why not plasma? It's the technology of the gods.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Plasma tv's are like radiators, led looks better.

LCD TVs? Better image quality than plasma? You must be joking!

I think you're confusing "LED" with OLED. As far as I know, there are no large-size OLED TVs available as of yet.

LED TVs have higher contrast than LCD.

Plasma is better for watching sports (600MHz as opposed to 60/120 for LCD/LED). Less ghosting and smoother video.

Go to the store and look at half a dozen TVs.

600Mhz TV? D: wow!

I think you mean Hz right? Isn't that useless because a) no point in going over 120 b) without a 600hz source it's a placebo effect?

A "LED" TV is just an LCD TV with LEDs instead of CCFLs for backlight. They're cheaper to make and use a bit less power. They have absolutely no advantage over "normal" LCD TVs when it comes to picture quality, where they're far inferior to plasmas.

No, they don't. Perhaps if you compare a LED-backlit TV with a great panel to a normal LCD with a shit panel, but if the only difference is the backlight, they're equal.

We've got a 42" plasma, and my grandma has a 42" LCD... without a doubt, the plasma is better for movies everything, it just looks better..

Yay! People speak truth in this thread

JVC 42" Plasma here. It was before they put tuners in them, but it still shits over LCD.
