would you ban someone that wasn't me for a WEEK without an AWM?
let me explain this to you because you seemingly do not get it: english people use swear-words liberally, and they are not pejorative or invective. english people communicating with english people (especially when one, or both, are drunk) will result in a 'colourful' interaction. bf2s is a small, dying community now: you cannot moderate it with the basis of 'my kids shouldn't be reading this!' because you have to realize the ABSURD amount of over-sensitivity in that statement; there ARE NO MORE KIDS coming to bf2s. it's the same 20 people that have had the same set of inter-personal relations and stances/grievances to one another for YEARS. if someone can't take the posting-atmosphere of bf2s by now, they would have left about FOUR YEARS AGO.
here's an analogy: coming here and moderating strictly according to the 'bf2s rules constitution' is a bit like american supreme court judges (think supreme court justice scalia) applying a legal doctrine of constitutional originalism to EVERY SINGLE case they encounter TODAY in 2010: the results you get by your 'literal interpretation' of the rules are ridiculous and do nothing but leave the user-base asking 'WTF?'. the bright-eyed rules of bf2s laid out several years ago applied at a time when the website had a considerable user-base and an even bigger viewer thoroughfare. it is foolish to think it's the same as that, here and now. you just come across as perplexingly draconian and hopelessly out-of-touch with the frequent users (much like judge scalia with his originalism) because your decisions and actions are SO pointlessly misguided. no offence, but that's just the way every one seemed to take your banning-spree-- quite literally.
thirdly, a good moderator would have some sensitivity and awareness of the 'wider context' of 'offensive posts'. i.e. THE POST RIGHT BEFORE MINE being a completely uncalled-for and pointless PERSONAL ATTACK - from a SOBER-MINDED person. of course a drunk person is going to retort with a slew of drunken, meaningless insults. the fact you ban me for a week outright and don't even AWM the original trouble-maker brings me neatly back to my first point that it's just a 'oh it's uzique, ban again' attitude. it's unprofessional and, furthermore, you're just killing off the only active user-base you still have left.
i think another member said it best: you moderators and admins will continue with your mod-forum 'serious business!' affairs and with your holier-than-thou, divine-decision attitude, and you'll carry on high-fiving and slapping one another on the back even when you guys are the ONLY members left on this website. and i bet you'll still be writing essay-length 'AWM Reports' in your moderator-forums when the only people left to AWM are each-other on the staff. great job!
food for thought.
edit: btw i like to think i do contribute to this forum - and many others agree with me. i may be a petty-grievance to you but the fact is, i come here every day and make posts, contribute decently to debates/discussions and topics, and play GAMES (you know, the original intent of this community) with many members on a daily basis. im not here to just be a thorn in your side. but im going to say things straight when i think you guys are being unrealistic.

(1) I count at least 7 warnings for flaming/personal attacks in the last 3 months ... the list goes on (yes, we log all warnings). So, there were multiple warnings, including a very strong warning on 6/9/2010 ...
(2) The forum rules of BF2S will be enforced. You are a guest here. If you want to post here, then follow the rules ... as a guest, you neither get to define the rules nor interpret the rules.
(3) Flaming and personal attacks will not be tolerated on these forums.
(1) context, context, context. be in touch with your community rather than acting like omniscient over-lords of us lesser mortals.
(2) "constitutional originalism is the most bogus legal doctrine of the 20th and 21st century".
(3) if you consider my feedback on your decision 'flaming and personal attacks'... well. i have nothing more to say on the 'divine nature' of our Lord's decisions.

I hear you. I understand you.
The great news for you is that there is tremendous freedom for you to go to another forum where the atmosphere is more to your liking.
Better yet, you can create your own forum!!!! All you need to do is spend some money and devote some time to management.

then there will be no discussion other than the whispers of wind in the tumble-weed!
BADUM-TISH!!!
on another note... fucking hell. booked a second holiday to turkey and the airline has gone into liquidation. went to ibiza with my student-mates on a budget airline and was a perfect service; book an expensive flight with a decent airline and they go under. go figure.

like i said... it's heavy-handed and a little out-of-touch... comes across as part delusional.
sure they broke 'the rules', but the fact is that strict-moderation and admin-visits are rare and far between... the standards slip and everyone becomes casually accepting (and, more importantly, FINE AND HAPPY WITH IT) in a state of casual, friendly-banter between members. there are some grievances, some petty rivalries - but it's all part of the 'fun' of the community mix. when a 'serious' moderator comes back (DO A RESEARCH NOOB) or an admin taking himself more seriously than agent smith in the matrix (RESPECT THE RUUUULES)- the community tends to recoil a bit and go into shellshock. 'what is this?' - 'what's going on?' - 'why was xyz banned?'.
rule-breaking, yes... but harming who? nobody except the outraged, indignant moderator that returns from months out in the wilderness.

Backstory: I thought I was being kind by not perm-banning you. I overruled some of the moderators ...
People get pissed at members. We hear it - I can get loooooong emails about it. You don't know every story, or the whole story.Uzique wrote:

it's been known that some moderators have wanted to perm me for ages.
other moderators want to perm other 'certain' members, too.
why don't they? - a) the community will die, whether the people you ban are 'antagonists' or not, b) it's just not impartial or objective anymore.
the community has become so small (and comfy with that, it's fine) that the moderators frequently get involved in 'flame-wars' and people differences. they can't perm-ban somebody because they know that the members will call them out. moderators are no longer the detached, 'vanguard' of keepers and rule-upholders. they're now just as much part of the crowd of forum personalities as any single member is. they can't perm because they're inextricably involved in these little ongoing feuds (which are FUN, not destructive).
basically you're not telling me, or anybody else that has been banned, anything new. it's kinda irrelevant, actually. the forum will die without all these people.

my point is that the 'serious' mods are too detached and out of touch with the communities ups-and-downs.
and the other mods are too involved to be able to credibly ban people anyway.
