Uzique I've been reading your posts in this thread and you've been saying that there is a lack of emotion in police procedures nowadays. How can emotion ever be introduced here? I mean how could it be possible, in a system build on fear, to have it's watchdogs become "puppies"... lets not forget that the police force represents and protects much more than citizens.

personally, if i was a police man in UK, i'd probably go postal in there. but according to Uzique they should all hold hands and remain "civilized" in that Sodom and Gomorrah.

if you open your mind too much your brain will fall out.
I remember that story of that soldier that survived 2 tours of afghanistan but nearly died when police set about arresting him for drunk and disorderly. He said he was more sure he was going to die on the floor on a night out than on patrol in helmand. Sad.
Cops on the whole are okay. They get a shitty reputation from the few bad ones.
the cops are there to remind you, the law abiding citizen, that you are fucking screwed if you break the law. So, in a way, the system benefits from the lack of emotion and the evokement of fear, a feature implemented in it's nature. My point is that you can't have a good police force without a radical change taking place.
no, i mean the process of treating and dealing with vulnerable or affected people.Metal-Eater-GR wrote:

metal you're talking in idealisms and textbook-optimisms. it just doesn't work like that. the system isn't 'cold' and 'emotionless' because it's seen as a positive or beneficial thing: it ends up being that way because of the social and psychological relations that are formed between you when you engage with a police officer - criminal/officer, victim/saviour, aggressor/resolver etc. putting people in that position psychologically, with a state-sponsorship and a whole textbook of legislation behind them to do as they wish... it's a frightening thing. you really cannot appreciate what i am talking about until you've even been there, sorry. many people say it but they say it for a reason - it's true.
the entire process is completely dehumanizing (by design) and strips away all of your liberty. it's a systematic degradation and humiliation; a process built from the ground-up to remind you that you're the bitch of the state and they're the long instrumental fist of that state that will reach deep inside of your ass and tear out any and all notions of 'freedom' you pretend to have. the amount of power and responsibility that a bunch of thugs and power-hungry college dropouts get is unreal. as many people in this thread have attested to: police at riots, police called out to street violence / minor infractions, police at domestic disputes... they get punch-drunk with the power and can really ruin your fucking life on a whim.

Depends.. Most important thing is to obey the police, be calm and talk politely. You will be surprised how much you can get away with.

Obey or submit? FREEDOM!!!!!!
you will also be surprised how little you can get away with.
maybe the baby kept him up late last night, crying... maybe him and the wife argued over the in-laws... maybe he spilt his coffee in the office that morning... oh well, guess your chances of 'getting away' with things on a lenient-cop's watch just went out the window. now you have a criminal record and you're looking at jailtime, and your entire life is starting to go down the drain reaaaal fast, because some poorly-educated, thug-brute police officer was having a bad day and was feeling... erm, how to put it... 'professionally revanchist'. then you get to court and the prosecutor, who earlier that week has just found out that his son got caught up at boarding school with some of that 'marijuana' the legal reviews and papers keep talking about, looks at the next case to shuffle in to the dock for the day and... oh, what's this? some young punk sat in his court on a saturday morning on a drug's charge? well, well, well... the plot thickens.
you can spout hypotheticals all day. the fact is the police are human people tasked with implementing an ideal set of laws. the 'human' part is the fundamental flaw and weak part of the chain there , im afraid.

They get to the point they believe their opinion IS the law.

So would you agree that the relation between you and a policeman could be amended only after a radical change in the system? Not just the way the policemen are trained, but the way we view them as well.
Pointless convo, but who cares.

Follow the instructions above and you will be less fucked. Those instructions, my dear, are empirically proven, therefore:Uzique wrote:

empirical proof on the whimsical nature of human beings... that sure makes sense... typical scientist
i think there's a functional necessity in having a police-force, because it's simply the best we can do in human-nature to implement social order and legal rule. being an idealist, though, i don't like how pure legal principles are slowly eroded through lax practice, personal incompetence or egotism. that goes for legal officials at every level at every stage of the legal process. even lay-people, e.g. juries and lay magistrates... are fundamentally flawed. after studying the principles, philosophies and ethics of law for a good year (and bloody loving it, may i add)- i just have been left with a... 'healthy distrust' of people in authority-roles. we should never be complacent or over-congratulatory of our police force and legal officials when they deal with the most precious commodity in the world on a daily-basis: human freedom.

That's the risk you run when you are doing something naughty, not like im against weed but the way I see it if you get caught with weed and get charged for it that's the way the system goes. If you get let off then it's your lucky day. Same goes with anything, it doesn't matter what kind of mood the cop was in if I got busted commiting an offence I would expect to be charged, not expect to be let off.Uzique wrote:

Uzique, you rely on generalizations way too much. Not all cops are drop outs or dumb asses, Im doing a degree that dips into law, sociology, phycology and a buttload more.

The only police I ever met were like Swiss SWAT or something. The freaks pulled their guns on us walking home with our airsoft rifles over our shoulders. Some stupid bitch called them and said there was a bunch of kids shooting each other with real weapons. Fucking ignorant cunt.
Anyway, most of them laughed when they found out it was airsoft. One douche with a fuckin' French mustache still kept his weapon unholstered, it was bad enough he made our little friend piss himself. Douche...
Right well, they were really cool about it and said they normally confiscate and they'd let us go with our weapons.

We've been playing the same way we always did for TWO YEARS in the same spot and we knew all the neighbors. We obviously weren't killing each other since there were no loud shots, no casings, no blood, nothing. She's an ignorant idiot.
We know all the neighbors and that idiot had nothing to do there. Stupid woman.

Same thing happened to me years ago... you've got to realize, from a distance, airsoft guns look pretty real. Especially when they are designed to look real. Even with the orange tips. (I've read of criminals attaching orange tips to real firearms to confuse police)-Sh1fty- wrote:
