For me, a sequel is like a celebrity divorce. It's inevitable, it sucks, and it ruins a good thing. For me, one movie that ruined an otherwise amazing series was Aliens 3. Aliens one was great horror, and aliens two was an excellent thriller. Aliens three was hide and seek. Also, harry potter 6 wasn't as good as the others, because It didn't follow the book as much. What are your opinionas on sequels, are they usually bad or do they have potential? The only good movie series that had great sequels I've seen were harry potter, up to 6. Also, all three lord of the rings, pirates of the carribean (Except for parts of the third) bourne trilogy, and the dark night. However, for me, generally, a sequel ruins a series. What are your opinions on this?

The matrix kinda had to have sequels...

The Resident Evil is some how getting funding. I barely watched the first one on cable let alone the sequels.

Actually, I found that the older I got, the more painful watching star wars movies became (You know, star wars is introduced to many young unsuspecting boys at age 5, no matter the year). However, the 4-6 ones were definitely the best, I agree.

I know, but you know the sequel (coming out soon) will be a shadow of the original.

E: I hope I'm proven wrong btw.

so by uziques post im assuming this include prequels.
star wars prequels, overall meh and the changes lucas did to the originals was kinda pointless
pirates 3, i found it more boring overall than the previous ones. and i want more pirates not magic
i wouldnt say shrek was ruined but the later ones were worse.
after seeing the dark knight once i dont have any want to see it again. i liked it but the more i thought about it the more i didnt want to see it again. once again something i wouldnt say ruined just not as good.

The crystal skull... yeah. Ya wanna how to ruin a movie? Fuckin aliens. Its a cheap plot tactic so that the writers don't have to make a cpmplex, time consuming, but overall interesting explanation for weird crap.

Behind Enemy Lines 2 and 3.  Those were direct to video, so...  Yeah, I know some people didn't think the first one was great, but I thought it was decent.

Does The Pacific count as a sequel?

American Pie. The first two were great... the rest, not so much

I don't see how it a sequel.

UrbanDictionary wrote:

In literature and entertainment, a sequel is a story that follows an introductory story
Band of Brothers was a World War 2 mini-series based in the European theater, following the 101st Airborne. The Pacific was a World War 2 mini-series in the Pacific theater of operations following multiple infantrymen from different units.

The only thing they have in common is the era they take place in. None of the characters are the same, so I don't see how this could be a sequel.

Did you just quote UD as a source?

I meant it because its the same directors/producers/Tom Hanks/etc.

The characters don't have to be the same... the American Pie series doesnt have the same characters.

The Matrix tops my list...

The first movie still stands as one of the best movie theatre experiences of my life...while 2 and 3 are literally some of the most forgettable movies I've ever seen.
