I'm fairly tech savy, but I don't really know if these parts I have picked out will function correctly with each other.

Here's what I've got:

Mobo
ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO AM3 AMD 785G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

CPU
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ940XCJ4DGI - OEM

RAM
4GB kit (2GBx2), 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module
- Crucial memory. Product number "CT2KIT25664AA800" on their website.

GPU
Radeon HD 4890 GB series

I'm certain the CPU will work because it's a GPU on high end parts with a 750w PWS. I'm more concerned with the other three.
I'm a long time lurker, so Karma for help! I don't know who else to turn to =/

I saw this thread title and knew it was gonna be an AMD X4 build

Protip: i5 750 gives a fuckload better performance at not a lot more cost.

I already have the CPU

In that case, all looks well. Perhaps consider spending a little more for a GTX 460, it's the new 8800.

Yeah you're pretty much set there. Maybe an aftermarket HSF so you can OC that cpu a little bit?

The RAM is compatible, right?

Alright  well thanks man =]. I wasn't sure if it was because I looked at the specifications for the mobob, and it said DDR3, but the RAM says DDR2. I don't know a lot about RAM compatibility.

If the mobo's DDR3, what's the CPU? Is the cpt DDR2?

Ahh, oops, the CPU is AM2+, the mobo is AM3, which means it uses DDR3 instead of DDR2.. yeah that CPU won't work in that mobo, but the RAM is right for the CPU.

I thought that AM2+ fit into AM3 slots? I'm very confused :S

^this.

If you already have the CPU and RAM, best option is to get an AM2+ MB.

Alright, I looked for a bit, here's what I found.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813186149

Seems like it supports my DDR2 RAM as well as the CPU, and it's pretty good for it's price. Thoughts? Will this do the job?

Pretty sure that's the right spec, but are you going to need 4 PCI-e slots? You can probably get a similar one for much cheaper if you don't.

AM3 CPUs will go into AM2+ slots not the other way around

Why is your name clickable outside this topic and when you're quoted?

The .exe part? Oh, your name looks like an email. Nevermind.
