I only know Kari from Mythbuster, and you can easily see that she doesn't have any scientific background knowledge about the stuff she's doing on the show, going further than what she read up on before the show.
Neither do any of the other guys for that matter, but Mythbusters doesn't really try to be scientific anyway, because it's so apparent that a lot of their "proves" or "busts" wouldn't stand a chance in a true scientific experiment.
