Apparently you can jailbreak all iDevices by visiting jailbreakme.com in Safari. I haven't had success with it yet, but that's probably because the server is being slammed.

Btw, jailbreaking is now completely legal.

that's sick about jailbreaking being legal now.

jailbreakme.com was the first site i used tbh, when the first ipod touch came out (still using it today, hardy little fucker)

Have you gotten the new one working? The downloader never starts for me, it stays at the starry clouds picture and does nothing afterward.

Finally got it to work. There seems to be a few kinks here and there judging by some of the comments I've been reading, but there should be a bugfix sometime soon.

I'm on an iPod Touch 3G (8GB Version) with iOS4. I heard it breaks Facetime/MMS on iPhone 4.

Jailbroke 4.0 on my touch a with RedSn0w a while back, and it enabled the multitasking.

I've yet to find a Page file/swap solution that works well on 4.0 though, so it tends to be sluggish at times.

doing it on my itouch now

What exactly are the benefits?

(yes I realize jailbreaking before even knowing why I'd want to is probably a bad idea)

Shoot first, ask questions later. Lol.

What are the benefits, I have an iPhone 4 16gb, is it even worth considering? I'm entirely new to the concept if I'm honest.

I find it utterly crazy to think that something like jailbreaking could even be considered to be illegal. I can do whatever I want with my PC, why can't I with an iPhone?

Yup, just as long as you restore the original OS, its impossible to find out if its been JB'ed or not.

They deserve it for the incredibly poor design of the iPhone 4.

#1 reason I jailbreak is for an app called Music Controls. Best thing ever. Lets you use the Apple dock/remote to control many of the different Music apps (Pandora, last.fm, Remote, and so on) and it lets you use the controls on a bluetooth headset/device.

Other things I like is that the jailbroken flashlight app automatically sets the brightness to full when you run it and puts it back after.

And there's just the overall feeling of fighting the system that's always good.

Sidenote: Apparently there's no such thing as the deathgrip on the iphone 4 if you're on Rogers in Canada. It's not a flaw with the phone as much as AT&T just sucking balls.

^^

Also, the MMS/Facetime issues have been fixed by fully updating Cydia or using the new updated jailbreak installer (if you haven't jailbreaked already).

Would you like to hear something about this I thought was hilarious?

There has been something of an epidemic of users going into Apple stores and jailbreaking all the demo iPhones on display and putting loads of dodgy apps and explicit content on them.

How come jailbreaking iPhones that physically belong to Apple isn't in some way illegal?
