Ah right I see. Ok that made things alot more clear. So if I were to buy a X25-V 40GB for Win7, CoD4 and perhaps Photoshop I ought to be good in terms or storage, reading and writing speeds?
Main reason to use it for games such as PS3 and online games.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:
Yes, and fast load times and access latency.
Edit: A friend of mine uses a couple of SSD's to help when he does photography and multimedia things.
Yes.RDMC wrote:

Al right then. Well thanks for the answers now I have got some food for thought
TBH, 40GB is not enough if you are going Win7. At least 60/64GB. And as far as performance, yes, the Intel's are faster, but even the Kingstons are far far faster than any HDD. You really can't go wrong with any 2nd Gen+ SSD (with TRIM).
I don't know what you are putting in your win7, but mine fitted just fine under 20GB.Ilocano wrote:

Win7 should be fine on that hdd. It's less resource intensive than say Vista so it should be fine with that small space.Ilocano wrote:

This. 20GB left for everything else you want on the SSD. Not much left TBH.CammRobb wrote:

Plus you need some breathing room for TRIM to do its work.
You don't need much free space for TRIM unless you are doing constant large file writing on the SSD.

How about for scripted RAW pics processing and Video Editing?
I don't think anyone is going to have SSD as working drive for huge video files unless they have 256GB one, and I doubt photoshop writes all temporary stuff on SSD.Ilocano wrote:

Don't see why 40GB isn't enough. My current Windows folder is roughly 17GB and my CoD4 folder (Containing a shitload of mods) is currently 9GB. Leaving me with roughly 14GB of empty space. Obviously that isn't alot of free space, but then again it should suffice right?Ilocano wrote:

Also I've been reading a couple of reviews and they've made me question the Intel X25-V all together. From what I've read it is not the best SSD you can buy (Big duhhrr there) but it is a great SSD for people that 'want to hop on the SSD bandwagon'. However this is a conclusion from a series of tests.
Then somebody posted a personal experience, saying that he did not notice too much of a difference over his former HDD (Coincidently also a 750GB Samsung Spinpoint F1). So..I am kind of confuzzled at the moment.
Well that is all fine if you only play one game... my steam folder alone is ~50GB and that's only half the games I have installed ATM...RDMC wrote:

Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
RDMC, we use those intel 40gs at work for higher quality units. They replace 80 gig spinning WDs.
They run literally twice as fast.

Really? Mmm, interesting. Ok, you got me convinced. I'll pick one up in the coming weeks thenBevo wrote:

Do keep in mind that the SSD will mainly be used for my OS and possibly a game. The remainder of my games would still, just like now, be installed to my 750GB spinpoint HDD.FloppY_ wrote:
