Both of the event's finalists -- Russia's Vladimir Ladyzhensky and Finland's Timo Kaukonen -- were rushed to the hospital after collapsing during the competition, in which contestants are made to endure temperatures of 230 degrees Fahrenheit (110 degrees Celsius) for as long as they can. Ladyzhensky later died.

That was a failed joke to be honest.

When I saw the 110°C I was like "What?! 110°F is nothing!" then I read it again.

The guy in the pictures doesn't look burnt, he looks like there's a gooey clear substance melting off his body

I read Rick Reilly's article about the Sauna World Championships and apparently Timo Kaukonen is the best one out there.

EDIT: I googled Timo's name and one of the first links that came up was a "List of Unusual Deaths" on Wikipedia and the Russian, Ladyzhensky, who died is already on there...LOL

Well, Timo Kaukonen is in hospital and it's unsure whether he had some help from painkillers (too).

Kaukonen is in a coma. Imo the organisers fucked up by tuning the heat so much up. It's also hilarious to read in the papers some reactions of all kinds of know-it-all idiots who never been in a sauna in their whole life.
