How cheep can I get a reasonable quality ~19 inch monitor?

Yes I know I could just start browsing... But really don't know what is good either.

US companies (new egg/amazon), The squarer of the wide screens if that is possible (16:10 I think, not a huge deal)
I don't have room for TOO much more monitor on my desk, but I could go bigger I suppose.

I currently have this next to my screen as TV/second monitor. Looking for something that would be about the same size/fit well next to it.

Damn, that is way better then I was expecting. May have to do this sooner then later.
Its a little high (would like it to sit next to other monitor as best as possible), and 1440X900 sucks a little... but I like that price.

Really getting tired of the tiny ViewSonic CRT that has a cable 4 inches too short, pushes my speakers off the desk and picks up random static/interference from time to time.

I have the version with the camera (which I don't use). Thing's served me well for a long time. Not the size you were looking for, though. Still, I can vouch for the superiority of a slightly larger monitor over two smaller ones.

Nothing.
I use it on my second monitor (LCD with that as its native)

I use 1280X1024 on my CRT and appreciate the extra height/area. I guess it really isn't that big of a difference...

Everything just seems needlessly bigger on my 1440X900 19inch, like I said I can live with it just fine but more resolution would be nice.

BTW, both of these have built in speakers.
This is fine, but I don't care about them at all. Would rather have a better screen w/out speakers for same price, or just a lower price if possible. I will not be using them, but wouldn't avoid a monitor just for having them if all else was good.

Really sounds like you crave some space. Consider the one I listed. I sit 4-5' from it and it still looks larger than my 19" crt when I was sitting right in front of it. Plus with component you can plug in a PS2, a Wii or something.

(if you can't tell by now, I'm still in love with this thing)

Yeah, not crave... but it is nice.

Not even sure I am buying soon, that is why I wonder how cheap it would actually be. $100 is cheap as hell, almost hard not to... But shipping/tax and resolution make me think. (still a possibility though, like I said my other is 1440X900 and isn't too bad)

The $200-$300 range is more of where I would have guessed this would end up... and is just enough to make me put off the purchase a while longer. $100 - 200 range is more appealing because I could just on it soon. Either price range is something I would consider though, its all just a balance of the factors I mentioned.

BTW as far as plugging in other stuff....
This is going to be used only as a computer monitor. I have dedicated speakers, and I only use my PS3, which is HDMI to my second monitor/TV. I don't really want PS3 hooked up to my primary monitor (which this one would be)

Viewsonic has a 1ms response LCD at 27". Haven't seen it in person (which I like to do before recommending monitors), but Viewsonic's been a good brand to me. Still, $350.

So yeah, 1080 should be just fine. 1200's most useful for video editing, in my opinion.

Really? I had always thought Viewsonic was a shit brand. I know most of the products I have had from them seemed pretty low end.
At this point, I wouldn't even consider replacing with another viewsonic. Not to the point of irrationality, if I am wrong about them they could go back on the list... Just not a brand I would have looked at.

The Asus is definitely one to look at though.

Should I worry much about not having DVI? Especially at lower resolutions is VGA likely fine?
All my monitors now are VGA, and no complaints... but I've noticed that higher quality video files and upscaled DVDs look slightly better off the PS3 then my computer (over HDMI vs VGA). Though that may just have to do with me liking the PS3's upscaling or what ever.

If you're talking about the Asus MS228H, the box includes a DVI->HDMI cable. As for Viewsonic, I have yet to have one of those break down on me. Doesn't necessarily say anything about them overall, but there it is.

Good point, and I guess in general those are cheap enough anyways.

Was asking both specific and general. I think there have been one or two so far with no HDMI in? I know very few of the cheaper ones seem to have DVI.

Most LCD monitors you find [new] are going to have both HDMI and DVI in. The d-sub you see on some of the specifications is actually VGA. For other connections, you'll have to poke around. You'll probably find a few gee-wiz combos (which led me to buy the first Asus I mentioned awhile back).
