I want to buy this drive, load it with music files using a PC with XP and then use the drive on an Imac laptop

is this possible ?

Yes, just format it as FAT32 if it isn't already; the limitations to FAT32 is that you can't have a single file larger than 4GB.

I think he wants it as a system drive. Can you have a FAT32 OS drive? I think it needs to be partitioned, doesnt it?

But it's a USB external.. one doesn't use them as a system drive

Yeah, I guess its just poor wording. He says he wanted to use it on a laptop, which I took to mean an internal drive. External still would fit my description since you could put the files on it as an external then put the drive into the laptop
