Floppy, there are actually places in the United States (Los Angeles, for instance) that the law says that if traffic is moving slower than a certain speed (in LA I believe it is 45 mph) then you can as a motorcyclist drive between the cars. Same goes here in Austria and Germany. I don't necessarily agree with it because you're right, a motorcycle should be treated as a car, but in many places it is allowed. Pretty sure it's also allowed in the UK, but I could be wrong on that one.

I wasn't aware that you're only allowed to do it under a certain speed though. See plenty of motorcyclists squeezing through on a busy freeway at 65+ mph. But it's their prerogative so w/e.

it's quite stupid that a motorcyclist will lanesplit in heavy traffic going like 50-65mph when if a car decides to switch lanes it could beeeeeeee really bad
I excel at the position, please don't discourage my stupidity. I thought it was entertaining.FloppY_ wrote:

Yeah at those speeds I can only say good luck and empty care cup if someone idiot manages to be hit by a car when splitting on the highway. But at slow speeds when the lanes going in the same direction stand still I have no objections.mtb0minime wrote:

Yea, doing it at those speeds is rather dumb. Look at it this way, though: the more motorcycles on the road, the greater the supply of organ donors!mtb0minime wrote:

Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
Id like to do my motorbike test and get a decent bike. One day...
If you have a drivers licence you can just do your CBT (takes a day, costs about £85) and you can ride a 125cc for ever, as opposed to having a 2 year limit on it if you just do it with a provisional. Cheap way to get on 2 wheels, and theres plenty of fun to be had with some of the small Aprilias and Yamahas you can pick up these days. You can always go for a full bike licence down the line.jord wrote:

My new neighbours have bikes. Nearly knocked one over when I was parking last night.
Never knew that, I think it may just come in handy, thanks. Insurance will be a lot cheaper too I imagine. Will a 125cc be okay for motorway driving?KingCheese wrote:

Have to have a full licence for motorways. Although you can go on the motorway on a 125, 50cc plus is technically legal and that keeps mopeds of the motorway as they're 49cc. On a 125cc my insurance is £70, tax is £15. I got cover an the missus Aprilia RS 125 and I love the thing.

I see no problem whatsoever with it. There's enough room between lanes of traffic to EASILY fit a motorbike up, why would you stay at the end of a traffic queue when you could quite easily filter between lanes?Filtering - How it differs from an 'Overtake'.
Contrary to the belief of some motorists, filtering is entirely legal in the UK, providing that it is done safely. Once traffic speeds are high enough to suggest that the traffic is no longer queuing, your manoeuvre may then be regarded as a dangerous overtake.
Jaywalking is such a joke. I'll cross where I want, when I want...
And do so everyday.
And do so everyday.
Fuck jay-walkers, when I was taking my driving lessons, I was doing it in The Bronx, and I almost hit guys jumping out into the road on 5 separate occasions over the course of the program.
so, how many points did you score Docta?

sorry, was thinking of the Simpsons game . . .
I would probably have kicked the biker's ass. The pedestrian surely came out of nowhere, but the fag was riding with one hand in a busy street, had he rided normaly, he would had avoided it.
