I-5 to Port Angeles up the 101 is a nice drive. Long but nice.
16->3->104->101 will save you a tremendous amount of time, even if the bridge can get jammed at certain times of the day. Still, it's just Walmart after Walmart on the way, until you get to the woods (where it's only an occasional Walmart).
If you want to be shake things up and be really clever about it, you could ferry-hop to Port Townsend via 525 Everett, and take 20->ferry->20->101. Not sure what time's they're running, but ferry's a really cool way to move. Also, the national park on the way (forgot the name) has a really cool view from the high road over the cove if you want to take a short detour. Not sure about what times they run, though.
If you're a Twilight fan, you can cut through the Olympic Nat'l Forest via 101 and eventually run smack into Forks.
So what specific dates are you going to be in Seattle? Gonna see if I can get some time off work to meet you somewhere

we have reservations Wednesday 9/1 in sequim, and
thursday - friday in Victoria, BC (couldn't get Vancouver reservations).
sat-sun, near the airport. we'll be renting a car, and traveling heavy.

i've finished packing, and expect to be home Labor Day. tomorrow i fly out, and hope to meet some of you Northwesterners.
Keep an ear out for traffic. You don't want to spend your vacation with a four-hour jam from Seattle to Tacoma. There's lots of parallel routes to take, so keep those in mind if you're comfortable with maps (though they get jammed up too).
newbie, we should all meet up for lunch next weekend. This weekend is going to be packed full of sightseeing, but next weekend might work. Will you be around? We'll come down there or you could come up this way.
