I guarantee they’d be confused and questionable looks. That is simply because even though they both serve similar purposes, they are not in fact alike.

- A Lesson in Terminology – The Magazine vs The Clip
Good article with good pictures. But unless I've gone retarded or not kept up on my info, doesn't the AR-15/M-16 and all variants that shoot .223 still use stripper clips to load the mags?
I know that my Dad has an actual Colt manufactured magazine from his service in Vietnam, loaded with blanks, and with a stripper clip attached. It was great fun to play with it as a kid. See how long it took to eject all rounds, load the stripper and charge the mag, pack it (so your ammo's lined up). (NOTE: SO I WAS AMUSED BY STRANGE THINGS. KIDS PLAY WITH GUNS ALL THE TIME. I'M NOT DIFFERENT! )
Secondly, I don't know how far I'd trust the ammo on dumpshock.com.
It's a Shadowrun Website, for the pencil and paper game. How do I know? I used to play it long ago.
I used to weapons shop on dumpshock.

Good post - personally i won't get annoyed if someone makes the mistake (why get annoyed?) but i like info like this just for interest.. (doesn't hurt to know stuff like this, plus there are the idiots in the world that do get annoyed at this stuff - but oh well)
When I here Mag i think of Magnum, ya know, Harry Callahan, P.I., all that stuff.[QXJZ]Capt_Kefra wrote:
A shot in the dark (no pun intended) at the origin of the misnomer "pistol clip":
"Magazine" sounds bigger than "clip." Rifles are bigger than pistols. Therefore rifles use magazines, and pistols, being smaller, use clips?
Alternately, the wrong name caught on with the origins of gangsta rap. "Magazine" is too cumbersome to be rhymed or spoken rhythmically, and "mag" would only be said after the word "porno", I guess. "Clip" I guess is popular for rhyming with "Crip" and "strip", among many other, less colorful words.
I have no evidence whatsoever to back up either of these claims. But who knows anyway?
Do you think anyone gives a shit.
what about the big ass bunkers that hold all kinds of ammo, like not just bullets, but missles and plastic explosives, blah blah blah, we always called those ammo magazines.
great explination though, took my wife forever to understand the difference

Yup they do. They use the adaptor's referred commonly as "spoons" ... nice twist there considering my example.MaddOps wrote:
