I got a .iso file of windows 7 and a License via Uni, thing is I need to make my own win 7 boot dvd with just the iso, now I tried looking on google, but some guides said I have to burn the "etfsboot.com" and only that and other guides tell me to write the whole Iso file :S

This is the first time ever I am trying this so any help would be much appreciated

.iso is a disk image.

apply image to disc = win

any third-party burning software(think alcohol 120), or i think Vista has native support? OSX and Linux do too.

I'm still running the Dinosaurian monolith that is XP

So just the whole image ?
With the built in "burn image to dvd" ?
(using Nero 10 suite btw )

You can also use a thumb drive and make it bootable.  Did that when I upgraded my wife's laptop from Vista.

I did that with my fresh build. If you decide to go that route, OP, post here and I will post the utility that I used to do it.

I use CDBurnerXP for burning/ripping, and MagicDisk for virtual drives.

A lot of people tend to like to use that proprietary MagicDisk/MagicISO format so it's the easiest solution.)

Edit: Quite interested in said utility. Please post.

I'm currently trying with imgburn, if this proves unbootable, I'll be awaiting further suggestions

I tried ImgBurn and it didn't work for me, but it was on a bit of a suspect machine. If you can get it working, congrats! I think you need to unpack the ISO to make it a proper bootable, though. There's a guide on how to really do it on the ImgBurn forum.

You shouldn't have to do that...

What do I know? I didn't write the program, so I don't know how it works. Just going by what the guide said.
