General Desktop upgrade, need advice

Ok, so, my system has been going for a solid 4-5 years with the occasional part replacement here and there.

Now I recently got payed from a holiday job, so I would like to do a decent large-scale upgrade (within a budget)

So the parts I am still going to keep are : GPU : Ati HD4870 (manufacturer club)
Harddrives ( still decent size, no direct need for bigger )

And the parts I'm looking to upgrade are: CPU (and adequate cooling), Motherboard, Ram memory and most likely a new case (does that mean new psu aswell ? )

therefore I was wondering what the community would suggest ?
I have a preference for asus-amd parts, since those have never failed me before and seem to give a good price-performance ratio .
I would like a dual-core Cpu, -> My thought would be AMD Athlon II X2 250 3ghz
For the motherboard in mind I am leaning towards the ASUS M4A89GTD PRO
And for RAM : Kingston Valueram memory 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM

And I was wondering, would this work ?
Do I need any additional parts ? :S
Is there anything out that that would cost less and be better ?

I'm kind of a noob when it comes to tech, but I'm eager to learn

So if anyone has any ideas, suggestions or advice, please help, I need it ^^

Budget is about 300-400€( for the grand-total) , would that fit ?

That's without CPU cooling though. Are you planning on overclocking?

I'm not really confident in my overclocking skills unless there's an easyish way to do it and without voiding the warranty ?
Would it give a really big speed boost ?

But an i5 at stock speeds will max any game today no problems.

There's no point getting the i5 750 since the i5 760 was just released. They pretty much cost the same, but the 760 has lower consumption, better performance etc.
And it's one of the fastest CPUs for games, even at stock speeds.

Forgot about that. Only £5 more on Ebuyer too.

Regarding CPU cooling, you can go for the expensive H-50, which is pretty awesome, or save a few bucks and get the same performance from something like this.

Ok guys
I went with the suggested hardware parts and Oh My God, I am not disappointed
Everything runs smooth, no long start up times, fancy visuals of W7 and much more ^^
Now a little question, does the new motherboard I have, support serial ata ? and will windows 7 support ntfs ?
Because I had two HDD before and replaced the C:\ drive with a new 1TB drive for OS and stuff, but the D:\ drive of before is gone ?
They connected it, as I can see when I open the case, but it only shows the 1TB drive ....
How do I "scan " for it ?

I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

I tried "scan for new hardware" but that didn't bring anything new up ....

I can only see my external HDD (500 gb) and internal (new 1TB drive), not the other internal drive

And side question, what is the difference between SATA and IDE ?

SATA supports much higher transfer speeds (1.5Gb/s, 3Gb/s, and now 6Gb/s). Most recent IDE I think is only ~1.04Gb/s

Also, SATA uses thin connectors (usually red or orange)while IDE uses a ribbon cable.

Whatever I try, under device manager or the storage thing, it just doesn't show up

Does it show up in BIOS? Restart your computer, at the bottom of the screen their should be something to the effect of "Press Del to enter Setup" press that key to enter setup (Note your key may be different). Once there go to Boot, and on the Boot screen their should be a setting called hard disk drives or something similar. Is the hard disk drive listed there?

Ok new development : at boot it says, system is configured in IDE, this may slow performance, do you want to switch to sata ?
Now I have no idea what to do, if I change to Sata will w7 sitll work ?
Since now apparently, the "performance score" is 5.9 and that bottlenecks the rest (apparently, the new system churns like a dream in comparison to the old one so .... I wouldn't know the difference)

And then a secondary question, the previous C drive is now taken out for space for the 1 TB drive (physical space in the case reqs....), how do I get the data from that drive back to the pc ?
Can I make it an external drive ?
Sorry for the flood of questions, I'm brand spanking new to this tech thing xD
