Well that depends on what socket you have.
It doesn't matter, since it is going to be an entirely new setup.
If you're wanting a reasonable price then I'd say a i7 930

The hexacore is useless unless you do a lot of multi-threaded applications, such as video editing, picture editing, folding, etc. The i5 outperforms it in games.

Is it possible you will want to upgrade the graphics card again before you upgrade the whole system? because if you get something a little better (such as the i5) it leaves room for a graphics upgrade later on....

Get yourself a GTX 460 1GB and an AMD 1055T. Loving the hell out of this combo! Motherboard and CPU combo is cheaper than an i5-750 combo by a good margin and the GTX460 is pretty quiet. I could recommend NOT using the stock cooler that comes with the AMD, though - that's a touch on the louder side (though it cools the CPU off real quick, it's just a small fan and small fans are generally loud).

iirc voltage is slightly lower on the 760 compared to the 750 while still having that extra multiplier. It's only some 2-10W less anyway.jaymz9350 wrote:

VID is between 0.6500V-1.4000V for both 750 and 760.
VID is not solid, it depends how good the individual CPU is.
It is not uncommon to have same model CPUs with 30W higher or lower power consumption. Depending how good chip it is.
