I preferred my idea. This ex special forces guy who is the epitone of a hollywood SF cliche goes and lives a peaceful life. He is a part of a few charities and sponsors a child in Somalia. The kid sends him letters and the guy replies, along with sending chocolate/money/etc. The story materialises when the kids letters get more and more traumatic. A rebel army is starting to visit all the neighbouring villages and the kid thinks he's next. He says his Auntie was raped and multilated in the village over called "Sytherus" and his uncle was also executed.
Then the ex SF guy is like tryna get help, but there's no embassy, and the neighbouring countries won't do shit. He takes matters into his own hands and travels via Kenya North to Somalia, acquiring weapons and kit on the way in Kenya. He then goes and in a completely unpredictable plot line gets captured at the border by Somali pirates. They take their frustration out on him with rifle boots, feet and whatever else they can find. Only they take it too far, which isn't what they wanted as they needed ransom money. The SF guy dies and the Kid flees his village only to be forced into the rebel militia, so that I can milk a sequel.
