I went to fill up my car's tank at a gas station today and the guy working there asked me "Do you want Shell V-power or normal petrol".
This got me thinking, is it worth buying the "Super or Premium" stuff that they sell? Do you guys use it sometimes?

I've filled up the tank once with V-power. That was when I had my friends bike for loans. Other than that I used regular for my previous cars. The vehicles I've had weren't worthy of that fuel _{neither was my wallet}

No but ffs there's impurities in the regular gas that can build up in your engine, hence why it's a good idea to use the premium stuff once in a while.

If you want to feel some extra performance install some fuzzy dice.

It'll make your cornering feel much more responsive, cause you can see the dice move.

My Subaru runs a lot better on Premium compared to regular, and gets better mileage.
With the extra cost and the extra mileage the cost/mile is exactly the same, but it runs better so I use it.

To answer the question, whether its worth it for you is going to depend on the car you have.

Mostly depends on the engine. If it's high performance, turbo or supercharged then, yes it's well worth the extra expense to keep the car running smoothly. In some cars it's recommended by the manufacturers and they can even void warranties for wrong petrol use.

But in most cars the benefits of cost v reward is just not there.

I pump normal, gas is expensive as it is, normal is about 1,50 now and that V-power stuff is 1,65. No thanks, even with my compressor, I will pump normal gas.

I guess going with what the rest say, it is reccomendable but the cons are bigger than the pros imho.

It's recommended you use 98 octane, and no less then 95. Anything less can cause long term damage to the engine.

Also every company in every country has a different definition of what is "premium" petrol. So make sure you know the octane levels and don't rely on the wording.

You should pump the gas with the recommended octane level. Go to Wikipedia and read up on octane levels (RON is used in the States whereas ROZ is used in Europe. A low ROZ octane is a higher RON octane.) because that is the difference between regular, premium and super (or whatever your local gas station decides to call it).

For high performance, I'd use the good stuff. For trucks and run-of-the-mill cars, I'd mostly use lower octanes and every now and then grab the good stuff.

My dad has an Impreza that he fills with V-power because they recommend it.

Nope, its a sales tactic. We learned about this in one of our training sessions at work.

"Fill it up with premium?" will get many more people to say yes to paying for the expensive gas, compared to asking "Do you want regular or premium?"
