it's a white-label vinyl term and means 'Variation In Production'... it's normally an artist's second take or second version of a song that is only distributed in limited quantities (normally to the labels or to other DJ's for their mixing). some VIP's are considered as good as or even better than the originals... so they're released to the public, too.
