people are always young, liberal and sympathetic to left-leaning ideas... because, well, they're ideals. there's a certain amount of political naivety and a lot of over-estimation of our capability in society. as you get older and get more vested financial and personal interests, you want less to do with radical systems of change and high idealism and more to do with protecting your own assets and keeping the politicians out of your pocket. some of the most outspoken 'radical' thinkers and intellectuals have 'turned' in later life.
