Yes, I'll always have a soft spot for the Cenobites.

And don't forget Max von Sydow as Leland Gaunt/Satan in Needful Things.  And Robert DeNiro in Angel Heart.

That's kind of a loose guarantee. Still, if it's true, I usually give a show til episode three or four to catch my attention if the hook didn't manifest in the pilot.
the whole point of a tv drama is that it has the creative license to develop plot, character and narrative over 9-12 hours.

people that judge and give up on a tv series in the first 1-2 episodes are stupid

that's like walking out of the cinema after the title screen and introduction...

tv series are a 'commitment'. to judge whether you like any given show, you normally have to watch at least half a series.

in the case of the wire i couldn't get through the 5x12 episode series fast enough. it was fantastic television.

Was everything I thought it would be. Granted it was a bit slow at parts and quite shallow, but it was cool. I lowered the rating because Spoiler (highlight to read):
MOVIE NEEDS MORE HOT K-MART Oh, and it really didn't do much to the story line overall but it's cool for quick zombie ownage and female action.

No.

I know what they're supposed to be. TV is generally slow-burn drama, peeling back character details like layers of an onion. So I give TV shows a fair chance. But if the first few episodes have a weak hook, that spells trouble, at least for me. If I'm interested in the premise, I'll keep watching. If not, there's literally nothing keeping me there. The first few episodes have ample opportunity to throw a character or event out there that'll just grab me.

Movies, on the other hand, enjoy the leisure of being able to have a weak opening while keeping my attention through the duration (if it gets better) because they're so short.

It was actually the slow-motion 3D bullet flying past my face in a preview that made me want to pass this flick in favor of a DVD release.

Edit: Looking forward to HBO's Boardwalk Empire.

the wire does not disappoint. the ensemble cast is just too perfect. love how it focus' on different groups time to time and theres no main group.

Good all around film.

The Big Lebowski

8/10

I thought it was great, a wonderful mix of genres in there, and fantastic dialogue and acting. Perhaps worth a second viewing as it didn't leave as much as an impression on me as the reviews suggested.

Reaper: Season 1 - 9/10

Now that I've had time to digest the slow-burning and slightly cliche show, I think I can bump it up a point (my last rating of it was an 8, if I correctly recall). It fits perfectly into its genre, the characters have great chemistry, and the devil keeps pulling you from episode to episode with creepily-amiable charm.

Starting on Reaper: Season 2. Wire's up next (week), if I can get it on Hulu.

Not pleasant to watch but a neat film with a cast of three. Keeps you guessing, kind of.

9 only weakly tugged me through its plot. I didn't really feel attached to any of the characters...Spoiler (highlight to read):
