whats the point though?
It doesn't have to have a point. Zombie Walks don't have a point but people still do them, They're certainly not politically motivated, (although the last one in Wellington people decided to march on Parliament chanting "What do we want? BRAINS! When do we want 'em? BRAINS!") And before anyone suggests that it's highly unlikely for Stewart, Colbert and Comedy Central do do somthing 'just 'cause' - well why not? Why can't it just be a big publicity stunt that highlights the need for a return to rationality - and yes there probably is a massive irony to that.

publicity and stuff is fine.  to call it a rally to restore anything is just plain dumb.

Maybe. I get the point they're trying to make though.

That's crap, you've just put your own spin on this. It's not even about the Tea Party. Throughout all of this I haven't caught Stewart talking about the Tea Party and his rally in the same breath. He has used the more ridiculous aspects of the Tea Party for comedic purposes, namely the witchcraft aspects and anti-masturbation sentiment, but that's what he does to everyone, (and it was just focused on one person.) The more he focuses on them is only reletive to the amount of material that they themselves provide for him to use. And for fuck's sake man, the crowd I mentioned in my previous post have existed since way before the Tea Party stuff. I haven't even been talking about the Tea Party people, (hang on I'll just check my previous posts on this thread... nope, not one mention.) I don't see how my perception of that group can be 'wayyyy off' if I haven't been talking about it. It suggest that your perception of people with a perception on the Tea Party group is 'wayyyy off' - I hope this isn't getting too confusing.

Your bringing up of the Tea Party thing brings to my mind Occam's Razor; "'the simplest solution is most probably the correct one". Where I see this rally and see a group of people getting together to protest the ridiculous aspects of society in a humorous way, (which is what it is on face value,) you see this rally and see a group of people with a biased political agenda getting together to protest a specific political group. It borders on conspiracy theory mate. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

And on that note, since I percieve this rally as nothing more than a group of people getting together to protest the ridiculous aspects of society in a humorous way it means that it has in no way influenced me politically, it can't. Maybe the left wing media and deviants at The Daily Show haven't done their job as well as you suggest.
The planned duo protest is in response to the teaparty protest held on MLK day faciliated by Glenn Beck.  Click some op links and read.  Connect the dots.  Every thing you've described above fits a stereotype of a leftist media portayed 'teaparty person' (or 'teabagger' if you're Obama).  I would be interested in learining your opinion on the teaparty group and how you formed it -if you'd indulge.....

Eurofolk really don't understand US politics, let alone the small jabs played out by hollywood entertainers.  Stay on the surface.  Yes, a cigar may be a cigar, but few can tell a good one from a bad.

Firstly, I'm not European.

Secondly If you think that the person/crowd I described is a "leftist media portayed teaparty person" then that speaks more to your perception of the group than mine.

Lastly, you probably shouldn't suggest that a scholar of American politics can only come from within America. Not saying I am one but, to toot my own vuvuzela, I'm certainly more informed on the subject than the majority of Americans, (it helps not to be exposed to what Americans describe as 'news journalism'.)

i would say Cybargs has a better understanding, and better insight to America than 98.6% of Americans themselves.

as for the rally itself? i would gladly have committed to go, had i not a personal commitment. the whole premise makes more sense than any glen beck fundraiser rally, and satire or not it's a message that this country needs before it grinds to a partisan standstill - "Take it down a notch".

. . . because if Americans can't decide how best to run this country, the choice will be made for us.

I listen to cybargs opinion... and er. or der...

Damnit burnzz... The choice was made for us. Forced down the throat of the moderate, didn't even read the fucking bill -gotta pass it.  Take it down a notch? No longer on the fiscal front!  And when a group (though again jacked by the relegious right) stands and says "Fuck this crazy tax/agenda shit." --- I could care less as to what 'god' they bow to.

Well dude, it isn't that simple and it ain't yer fault.  I dunno who's on yer' tv at night and can't pretend to know your politics in the first.  I do think you'd be an interesting conversationalist to down a beer with though.  simmer.

The one thing Cybargs has on citizens and most forum members - he has studied both the history and current events. puts them in context, and for someone who lives half a world away, i'm inclined to listen to him over the neighbor who lives half a block away.

you see, i live in a state that federally, has one Democrat congressman (he's a dino, bluedog, whatever) and the rest of the contingent is Republican - meaning if you want to wear an "R" by your name and serve in politics, come to Utah. The party has become de facto the only game in town, with the membership blindly punching a straight ticket without regard to actual agenda or policy.

This 'rally to restore' is a poke at a real grass root outrage to have America the way it was, at any cost to civility or practicality -  the outrage by most Americans is real, the direction has been hijacked by those who espouse Republican ties, but not their ideals. The Republican Party i voted for in 1984 is not and should not be confused with the talking heads who have interloped on the movement known as the Tea Party.

if you align yourself with the so called 'tea party' today, you deserve the moniker "teabagger" because all you want to do is wave your nutsauck in someone's face. Someone who feels the outrage and betrayal that a 'Tea Party' original grass root movement had better do their homework, research each and every candidate, vote their conscious and for the love of God and everything that is right with America TURN OFF YOUR GODDAMN TELEVISION.

yeah seriously. i was at a bar last night with cougar and they really hate obama. best way to blend in or make people like you is to vent your hate on obama. all the black people in town are in the college area and they never leave that area lol. have not seen one black person outside the college area.
