Trade War

China announced it is slapping tariffs on American poultry of up to 105.8% as an anti-dumping measure.  China began investigating poultry dumping two days after the United States imposed stiff tariffs on imported Chinese tires in a move to protect union jobs mostly in the rust belt and key voting bloc states.  Poultry is one of those rare niches that the US has a trade surplus with China.  The Chinese have been angling for years to export cooked chicken into the United States but has been met with heavy resistance from powerful chicken farmers and other lobbies.  On that note the Chinese have block imports of certain pork products.  In the past China has brought the US pork industry to its knees.

Much is being made of the aggressive tactics China used to obtain the freedom of a Chinese fishing boat captain arrested by Japan in disputed territorial waters.  Even after his release Japanese traders have noted imports of rare earth material has not resumed.

China is going to become more aggressive as it feels its oats of having the hottest economy in the world.  Still, the US has been forcing the issue as well, nipping like a hyena at a lion, and recently imposing duties on Chinese steel pipe makers.

Here's an article from 2009 about Obama placing tarrifs on Chinese tires.  I guess now that China finally has leverage that they'll start flexing their muscles.  Lets see who blinks first.

"Ah, you miserable creatures! You who think that you are so great! You who judge humanity to be so small! You who wish to reform everything! Why don't you reform yourselves? That task would be sufficient enough."

I had a Friend attend a trade fair in china, he told me there was a heavy emphasis on counteract products

" see how good this G.E. Label looks and you will pocket the extra profit ! "

I have had such bad experience with their products that I will no longer use them. From AKs to chicken Wire to a Toy boat that Sinks in seconds. I have had wrenches that bend and how do you F**K up a hammer for god sakes ! I am convinced the Chinese must have an entirely different set of production standards for non export production. I find trying to avoid Chinese products to be very difficult particularly when you shop for hardware. I think everyone would lose a trade war and many of the worlds economies would suffer. Not just P.R.C. and U.S.A. It is only my gut feeling but I suspect it world hurt them worse than it would hurt us.

Probably. They need the US to buy their shit. The US is just lazy and cheap, but if it really had to then it would have the capacity and the market to start doing shit again instead of relying on China.

Chinese goods do seem to have a low reputation, maybe it's one of those things where the free market will correct itself. Doubt it though. Not for the masses it wont

Not sure about this.  I'm admittedly uninformed on the actualities in China.  I have a couple friends who are American who now live in China and are absolutely BALLING.  They design video games for cell phones.  I have a hard time believing that there is any sort of mass exodus to the US from China in intelligent groups, so much money to be made there.

According to my friends, when you mix the communist control with the capitalist ideals, as China has, the money comes in boatloads.  One jokes "it's only communist if you're poor."  Corruption crossed with control and manipulation equals big money...  Although they do say, it's plastic, and their infrastructure will not be able to compete with their expansion.  One of my friends calls China's economic explosion the "star that got too bright too fast".
