That's just after passing the CBT. Even if you pass the full test you are still limited to 33bhp for 2 years.
I wish there was someone from the Uk here that's done the whole process and can inform me on insurance premiums and what a good first bike is. Sigh...
In America a lot of people start with a Kawasaki Ninja 250... but if you're required to have no more than 125CC for your first bike, that's out of the picture. Insurance for a bike is also cheaper than a car in the US.jord wrote:

edit: Nvm, you said after the full test it's a limit of 33hp? Then the 250 would work, it has 32.

Ya I know it'd be cheaper than car insurance. At my house for third party cover for my 1.2 my cheapest quote was £6600. I put my Dad's address down instead, brought it down to £2500. Still too much.

Yup. It would cost like $300/mo for me to insure even a shitty old car.jord wrote:

Ninja looks nice
oh, lol.
Ours got bumped down. 250cc limit on learners, and power to weight ratio of 150kw/t or less, I think. Some bikes over 250cc can be used because of the lower kw/t, but they're mostly old and not even worth it.
Here in QLD, the learners test is a five question quiz. I could've done it with my eyes closed. Only problem is that if I want to ride anywhere on my L's, I have to have someone who has had an open bike license for at least a year following me in either a car or bike. Which makes sense I guess, considering all other states require some sort of practical and written test, and then jump on a bike themselves and ride off.
Just waiting for others to get their learners, then a few of us are going to go get provisionals, when we can ride on the road ourselves. Should be good.
I'm also trying to convince my dad to buy another bike. He use to have a BMW GS1200R I think, and I want a proper road bike to use when he's overseas. Perhaps a Ninja 250R. Classic learners bike.
e: I see you two managed to post a whole conversation between the time of me starting to write and clicking submit, lol.

My insurance will be about £180/mo
Someone crashed into me 3 weeks after I got my car as well, I got my renewal quote a few months ago and it'd gone to £3500. I'm not getting a car for the next 2 years at least. Sucks.Hurricane2k9 wrote:

I got in a crash like a year ago but for some reason even when I don't include that in my history while getting an estimate (I just use their online quote calculator things) I still would have to pay a huge premium. I'm lucky that where I live the public transportation is good, otherwise I'd be screwed. I'm definitely not getting a car till I either graduate or the stars align and my parents pay for it. And that ain't gonna happen.
parking is bad in D.C. aint it

Public transport is good here too I suppose. I just want that extra half hour in bed in the mornings, and to get home earlier.
The other day I had to wait 2 hours to get a bus because the one I was supposed to get after an hour wait didn't even turn up.
I want a fucking car already.

My bus drove past me the other day, I didn't know you had to stand up for it to stop. I assumed if I sat there it would just pull up. How wrong I was...
Didn't lose any time though, just sauntered down to the next stop at a brisk pace

@GS depends... I'm usually lucky and can find parking, but it's pretty damn expensive in DC. The suburbs have cheaper parking and it's more plentiful. On happening nights parking does become a real son of a bitch though.
@Finray that fucking blows dude. At my mom's house if I miss a bus it's a 30 minute wait for the next one. It can take like 45 minutes to go by bus to a train station, but about 8 minutes by car.
@Jord yeah that happened to me when I first started riding buses, one day it passed me and I was like 'what the fuck.' Now I know better. And eh, I don't mind the commute by bus and train to school, I mainly want a car so I can easily go to places whenever I want. The Metro only runs till midnight on weekdays. Plus I like to go on fun drives on country roads.
