Howdy.

So the other day my computer was working fine without any problems, and I decided to go to Transformice (an online flash game which has worked without a problem several times in the past). As soon as I got to the site my computer froze and I got these red/pink lines down my monitor.. I tried closing the window, the tab, and even ctrl + alt + delete wouldn't work... The only option I had to navigate away from there was to hold the power button on my computer. Once I sterted it up my windows and dell loading screens were very pixel-ated. I went to CCleaner and it isn't indicating that I have a graphics card in my computer. I have tried taking taking out the graphics card and putting it back in again but that didn't fix anything.
Anybody know how to fix this, or know what the problem is?

I have an 8800 GT graphics card, and my computer is rather old. (5-6 years if that helps at all).
Thanks in advance.

sounds like its artefacting

possible over-heating... did you vacuum all the dust off the PCB and fan?

is your GPU or CPU overclocked? consider running them on stock and monitoring usage/temps

No it's not overclocked.
Yeah I haven't vacuumed the dust of in a while. I guess I'll give that a try. And it shouldn't be overheating seeing as I don't use/abuse it all too much.

Thanks.

PS. I should mention that I am very computer illiterate.

You mentioned that CCleaner didn't even recognize your graphics card?

If you click on the Start menu>Run, type dxdiag and hit enter, does your 8800 show up in the Display tab?

You'll need to download the latest drivers for your card then. Go here

Product Type: GeForce
Product Series: GeForce 8 Series
Product: 8800GT
Choose the appropriate operating system then click Search.

Download and install the one that shows up. You'll probably have to restart your computer when it's done.

very odd that a flash-app could cause a card to stop being recognized by the system

I've installed it but unfortunately it hasn't fixed anything.

Uzique@ Yeah that's what I was thinking. My computer runs games like TF2, L4D 2, Battlefield and others on low settings without a hassle, so I don't see how something as simple as Transformice can make my card to stop working.

do you have any other form of card to test? or any other spare slots on your mobo to swap the card in? even if it's 16x/4x... doesn't matter

I think I have an old card but if I remember correctly that one is toast. I may have another one around here somewhere though if I remember correctly.

Sounds like the GPU is on its last leg.

If your card is still in warrenty, try getting an RMA. If not.. time for the oven.

I wonder what it'd look like if you forget you have it in the oven.
