My dad had a very similar contraption that he used while hunting/camping. I don't know if it could slice onions...but it could do alot.

Come to think of it, our army issue spade was a tuff mofo like that one but it didn't have a saw feature. Could beat down some trees with it tho. Never tried to slice anything with it. It was handy.

They basically took inspiration from the German Wehrmacht and later the Russian Spetsnaz with the use of the shovel and the utility of the Swiss army knife and made a weapon into this. Damn, I can't wait to use this in Battlefield 3.
