Hi there,

Since a short period my GPU, a Club3d HD4870 has started artifacting in Black Ops. Now I've checked the temps and with the fan on auto and it never goes over 68 degrees and with the fan on 100% it never even goes over 55 degrees, so I hardly think temperature is the problem?

Now I've also run a furmark stability test with the fan on auto, I didn't spot any artifacts and the temperature stayed at 75 degrees which I think is pretty normal for a HD4870?

Do any of you have a clue whether my GPU is slowly dying or is this just related to Crap Ops? Because it has actually hardly ever artifacted on me before. I might also have to add that for a while now I had OC'd the GPU from 750/900 to 832/924, but never ran into any problems before with these settings. (Had been using it like this for half a year now) And even after I'd reverted the clock times back to stock the artifacting still remained.

And I do not know if this is in any way related: but I have the latest drivers.

So please, BF2's pimp my ride help me out!

i've read the pc version can be more buggy than the console versions

How do you mean "it's hardly ever artifacted on me before"? Has this happened in the past and if so details my good man

Well as in, it artifacted a couple of times when I pushed the boundaries of overclocking. Other than that, maybe a few times on a hot summer day when my room was just so warm that the cooling just couldn't keep up.

If the artifacting was only for a very short time I don't believe that would do any long term damage. Black ops is pretty picky when it comes to drivers, sometimes even preferring older version drivers to brand new ones, do you still have a copy of your previous drivers or can you roll-back? Worth a shot I think

I have a driver folder named: 10-3_vista32_win7_32_dd somewhere. I suppose that is driver version 10.3 so I'll give that a go then. I'll report back.

Well I guess it worked! Just finished the rest of the singleplayer and didn't come across a single artifact. Thank you for your help Jay!

I have an HD4870. However I don't have black ops

The stock cooler is terrible to be fair, I just recently replaced the thermal paste and it seemed to bring the temperatures down, if only a little.

I'm interested to hear if you're running black ops on high settings with that card? May get the game for xmas....

I'm running the game perfectly fine on high with a 1GB HD4870. Don't have the heating issues as my HD4870 actually has a really nice cooler on it (despite the fact that its a Palit card )
