I grew up in Nassau County but I was in Manhattan every other weekend as a kid. I know Manhattan like the back of my hand and to me it's just a crowded noisy place where the residents fucking hate living but will never admit it.

You'll get over your love of Manhattan after you turn 21. Then you'll get bored or turn into an alcoholic.
I went probably once or twice a year, sometimes more. I used to go in with my ex when she had FIT classes and just walk around aimlessly. As boring as it can be sometimes, I really do love Suffolk County. Taxes are a bitch (not that I'd know ) but it's a beautiful area to grow up in - especially where I'm from. The crime rate is extremely low, there's a phenomenal college right nearby... it's great.

Though I don't think I'd ever raise a family on Long Island.
Long Island is too fucking expensive. Blame the teachers and cops.
It's worth it if you can afford it.

I still can't believe my gym teacher was making 240K just for coaching.

Eh I think they look alright Mac, but the colors blue and yellow (especially that shade) make me think of Michigan.

New Yorkers can't drive so it's easy for them if the new one is next to the old one.
Y'know, when I saw the new NY license plates, at first I thought they were like DUI or sex offender plates.
They're fugly aren't they? They made everyone buy new plates this year so the state could raise $260M in revenue. They're desperate. Why they chose such a ridiculously awful color scheme is beyond me... if they wanted to go 'old-school' they should've gone back to the red white and blue statue of liberty plates.

No, that was on the upper west side.

Maryland's new plates have been polarizing

Although I like it, I prefer our old/normal license plate (that one above is only for a few years):

Can't beat anything with our state flag in it

Worth what? There are equally good, if not better, places you can raise a family in for much less money and in greater security. Long Island has nice parts but the traffic sucks, it's getting overly crowded, and the price of homes is unrealistically high. Many, many people my age are fleeing the Island and never returning. We've been priced out.

New Jersey has the highest disparity of any state in the United States between what it gives to the federal government and what it receives. In fiscal year 2005, New Jersey taxpayers gave the federal government $77 billion, while only receiving $55 billion. This difference is higher than any other state and means that for every $1 New Jersey taxpayers send to Washington, the state only receives $0.61 in return.
You're welcome freeloaders.
Every state with a high cost of living gives more than it receives. We also get taxed at a higher rate because the graduated income tax system is broken. I can live in Florida and make $50k a year or live in New York and make $100k and they would be equal after cost of living factors. Cool except the $100k is in a higher tax bracket.
