I doubt that very much, any more than anyone who wrote a book must have done a degree in literature first.

I think you're grossly exaggerating the social value of arts and humanities courses at universities, the departments themselves have negilible value either.

nice that a 30 year old grown-man resorts to such inane little jibes though, when faced with an intelligent rebuke to his usual misinformed wank

pretty much every philosophy since the greek era has been based on something before it. that's how human knowledge is structured.

writing a book is an entirely creative process. philosophical thought is a discipline. sorry.

Consider our media.. it's fucking 10x worse on global news. I could have sworn I was looking at a coup attempt last night in London. I figure that they do it to make us feel better at home.

It was to be expected. The police handled everything in the worst possible way, as usual.

it's because they're kept in small areas and are not allowed to leave for toilet, food, drink, or warmth

the police kettling has been atrocious. mothers weren't allowed to leave their peaceful protest to go and get their babies from nursery.

hence the crowd's frustration

It was actually quite funny.. they had all of these aftermath shots, but when they interviewed the students they seemed calm and reasonable. I mean, if it was truly out of control then surely they would have been able to catch more on camera. .. more "in the act" stuff. It's suspicious to say the least. Sadly, most people don't tick that kind of media manipulation.

Really? Ones I saw made me embarrassed to be a student, they sounded like idiots. Also there was one guy when asked why he was there, said something to the effect of "I don't really know". He looked much too old to be a student, and looked like he was just there to help start a riot.

You know....  if you guys scrapped your socialized pensions, you'd have more than enough tax revenue to keep from having to raise tuition.

Your old are sucking your young dry.  The same shit happens here but with different consequences.

Don't worry I believe you, it's just the ones I saw on the BBC were morons. Anyway, as someone who isn't in university to spend all my time at protests, I have to go attend a lecture so I'll pick this up later.

The footage varies immensely from one news channel to the next. During the last protests I was streaming Sky News and BBC News. Sky made it all a lot more "exciting" and were a lot less reserved with their footage.

oh christ turq are you really going to pull that POPULATION CONTROL shit in every single thread?

there's 101 things we can do to prioritize education before we start setting up 'leisure camps' for our elderly

No, it's not about that.  Retirement is a personal responsibility.

Everyone should be given the same chances at life in the beginning -- including education.  How you set up your later years of life, however, should be a personal burden that no one else should have to pay for.

Which to do effectively would take more then a generation and probably 2. Australia started it in the mid 80s and are still paying lots of pensions.

Fine. Then just say raise taxes. There is no "miracle money" to be found in scrapping pensions. You're just getting rid of something people have contributed to most of their life. Paying in to social retirement plans are not voluntary. Making someone pay you money work for you whilst getting nothing in return is borderline slavery. Taking someone's financial security when they are entering retirement is about as low as you can get. You're pitting social classes against each other.
