or maybe a minimalist, hyper-realistic post-modernist short story, in the vein of bukowski. all this filth and degradation and poverty!
actually when a bible-knocker came to my door yesterday i engaged in a proper debate with him about philosophy, he was out of his depth
i'd like to see an engineering undergrad repel annoying door-knockers with such class and finesse
Back in the nineties my buddy told the bible folk that he'd very much would like to take a pamflet but daddy might find out and he wouldn't like it since he worships satan. They never returned...
Oh, and you need to move out from the ghetto.
im currently renting a house in one of the most expensive areas in the greater london area
over here you get posh bible-bashers, too... they're called anglicans and catholics
adams i either want to go into academia, write reviews/culture journalism, or crossover into mba/law school
i have no pretensions about 'making a living' from writing. it's a hobby. besides, people with that dream do creative writing degrees
literature is just a good degree for me to get an excellent grasp on lots of big ideas. it's just a good all-round humanist education. lots of philosophy, theory, politics, history, sociology, psychology, law/business etc. everything. it involves so much more at degree-level than just reading books and 'talking about what they mean'. often my own personal interests and work is based on much broader themes and concepts.
i think there's a socio-cultural difference between people that go to uni PURPOSEFULLY with a career/money-making path in mind, and those that go as a self-enriching luxury. i'm in the latter. i've never thought 'hmm what job can i get with this degree'... i haven't really had to.
