Spec ops should def have em but not snipers cos it would be harder to locate em and im already getting owned by the 700 odd snipers on every server! maybe you could have them as an optional add on like in some console games, like put your silencer on and lose -5 damage. on spec forces you have the night vis goggles on key seven you could have silencer on one of those too! it would be good to have the option but it would have to cost you otherwise everone would run round with them on!lol then id get owned even more!!
that would pwn to have a MP5SD
The way it is now seems to work pretty well to be honest. From my point of view, if someone is close enough that I can hear them shooting at me I should be dead by the time I figure out where they are unless they are standing in front of me.
If they are far enough away that I can't hear, a silencer won't make any difference. The majority of gunshots that I seem to hear in game are sniper shots or shots that I'm getting hit with. Granted you hear the odd round rattled off in an alley next to you but I don't think adding silencers to one or two classes would be enough of a change to make any impact, its already a very fast paced game.

Spec opps and sniper should have a silencer option for their weapon, but putting on a silencer should lower damage or make it more inaccurate for balance. Spec opps need to be sneaky to put that c-4 on a tank or go to a main base to destroy commader assets, and a loud weapon doesn't help. Snipers need them because sound can give away your position and one goal of a sniper is to not be found.
Ussually teh only guns I can hear from a distance are the PKM and the M95. The other guns are relatively silent.
What he said-- spec ops only, and make the silencer lower the accuracy and damage.Delta_38DS wrote:

it should be as optional for both Sf and snipers I reakon it would incarige people more to work as a team of small groups L
Give the m4a1 a silencer, like in CS

I mentioned before that it would be a good idea to have multiple attachments such as silencers, scopes, tripods (forgot the real name.) You could maybe even selcet your grenades, smokes or flashbangs. The balance would be that the better the attachment or if you have 2 slots and use them both, it would add weight. This would in turn effect you sprinting capability. I think it would add some really cool customization to the game. Also a wider varitey of weapon, that are more authentic for the particular army. Imagine running around with dual 9mm subs for insurgent forces!!!
I would like carbines to have silencers, but I don't think there should be a penalty - sure they're good guns, but they already do much lower damage than all assault rifles. The only weapon doing less damage are pistols and SMGs. At max, a -1 penalty for G36, M4, and QSZ-97, and a -2 for AK-74U and SCAR. Because a pistol just doesn't measure up to a carbine. And accuracy might even be increased because the barrel is longer, and that way even though it would take more shots to kill you'd have more hitting and it would balance out.
I think they should make weapons echo more around alleys and such, make em louder so other players can hear them more. Then silencers would be realllly handy. they would have no echo and only be heard at close range.

Suppressors would make the gun more accurate because of the extra weight added for stability. Plus, the recoil would be lessened.
Also, you'd still hear a pretty audible noise from the gun.

assuslt and support should have desert eagles and but load as fuk that would be mean... who cares of anyone hears you
Customization like Delta Force WOULD be fun Have a little variety in the kits.
This is an interesting question. I think in vanilla BF2, only the spec ops and snipers should probably have silencers for any of their weapons. Those classes are meant to be silent and stealthy. They should also be given the option of taking their silencer of their pistol. The difference being noise, accuracy, and damage. With silencer, no noise, lower accuracy, & lower damage and without silencer the other way around of course. In addition to all that, I think the spec ops should have had the option to have a silencer on their primary weapon too. That's the kind of class they are, silent, swift, and deadly. I think it would have been cool to have a silencer on the M4 and the G36C. It makes sense to me. Gives the Spec Ops class another advantage for the loss of throwing C4. Now, that's just vanilla BF2. I think EA/DICE should have implemented this much further in Special Forces before they released it. The map design, atmosphere, and style of play in Special Forces is different than in vanilla BF2 (except for Warlord obviously and maybe a couple other maps). They should have given the option of silencers on both primary and secondary weapons for all classes. Maybe even the choice of the type of pistol you want to use too. This may not make as much sense on the daytime maps, but in Leviathan, Night Flight, and Devil's Perch silencers would have been perfect. I could only imagine a squad of skilled players on one of these maps with their night vision & silenced weapons wreaking havoc everywhere on the map and the opposing team not knowing what the heck was going on. The expansion is called Special Forces of course, EA/DICE should have taken more advantage of that and made it a little more interesting and different from vanilla BF2. I think the night maps are very underrated and the emphasis on infantry combat is more pronounced. I can't tell you how much fun I've had on Leviathan in the dark as a spec ops blowing up vehicles with my C4 because they didn't see me coming. Silenced weapons would have added another fun challenege for players to use and adapt to. Just my 2 cents.
Well suppressors don't really affect accuracy, but they severely impact range. Because the bullet has to be slowed down to reduce the noise, it travels less of a distance. This reduction in speed also means the bullet does less damage.
Plus you can't fire as fast with them because barrel overheating is more of an issue.

Oddly enough that is one of the features mentioned for BF2142...polarbearz wrote:

Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
I do not really care. Silencer does not play that big role. In fact, unsilenced pistol is better because you can see the sights clearly(when zoomed) which allows you to aim better. In BF2 silence doen not important because of the UAV and stuff... Well I do not mind to have silenced pistols. If people like them then lets have them if not... then not.
Ah yes, the Counter-Strike-esque silencer option. Well, in CS adding the suppressor to the M4A1 or the CT pistol made the weapon more silent (duh) but do less damage--a nice trade-off between stealth and lethality.
I'm not sure why EA didn't add silencers to Special Forces. For God's sake you'd think that a Special Forces crew would get suppressors or silencers, if they can afford night vision goggles. It wouldn't make sense to give all the kits silencers, at least on most maps, but Spec Ops should probably get one regardless. Thinking about it, the kit's emphasis is on stealth (at least that's how it's meant to be played). You have to sneak up on vehicles to C4 them (at least in theory, barring people who C4 infantry and/or jihad jeep) and the carbines don't do much damage so you pretty much have to be clandestine with them to score the kill.
Snipers, on the other hand, can be heard, but have claymores to protect their flanks anyway. The L96 is sort of silenced. The "gunshot" you hear is actually a combination of the suppressed shot, plus the sonic boom of the bullet breaking the sound barrier. "Subsonic" ammunition (i.e., bullets with a muzzle velocity of less than 1000 feet per second or so) is required for a totally silent shot. This is commonly chambered in the pistol calibers (as with the HK Mk23 SOCOM) but not, as far as I know, common in rifle calibers (the 7.62mm AWP/AK or the 5.56mm M16/G36).

Good question, but the debate is academic.
Anyway, my 2 cents would be to add a silenced unlock rifle for the spec ops and sniper classes. The silenced unlock would have slightly reduced damage and accuracy. Would add a bit of zest to the game without imbalance.

Well its a matter of necessity if you ask me. A medic that runs all around, risking his life to save others, do you really think he would need a silenced pistol??? An assault man....well he's assault, nothing to add...And engineer is useless long range, so a silenced pistol...meh..
Spec Ops and Snipers have them cause its in their function. Spec Ops: "infiltration" and sniper: the one that cannot be found.
So really, change pistols wouldnt bring major difference.

Interesting... I like it, although silenced weapons don't make much of a difference in BF2.
Everyone risks their life to WIN the game. Medics do it for points, plain and simple. You would find very few medics who would actually bother to revive at all if they didn't get any points for it. It's what a medic DOES. By that logic, Assault should get 4 points for every kill. That's my opinion anywaysYahooligun wrote:

im agreed with u on this would add something to the game to be able to choose what u have on your gun908741059871059781 wrote:
