The red light you see on the Moon comes from all the sunrises and sunsets that are occurring around Earth at the time. Our atmosphere scatters and refracts (bends) the sunlight that grazes the rim of our globe, sending some of it into Earth’s shadow.

That is true. There was talk of it possibly being turquoise as well. I guess a few recent ones have been.

Next total eclipse of the heart is June 15th, 2011. Won't be visible in the US though. Could very well be that the next total lunar eclipse that can be seen in the US is in 2014.-Sh1fty- wrote:

Because the bright side of the moon is so bright by contrast the color shift is not very noticeable until it fades considerably. I had to tell my daughter to be patient for that reason.KuSTaV wrote:

I could have seen a partial eclipse before moonset. I had completely clear sky. I had a reflecting telescope with moon filter ready. But I played computer games all night, only to fall asleep 1.5 hours short.
