I got a wireless router that I only plan on using for my iPod Touch, but so far it's not cooperating.

Default setup at home:
Cable modem hooking up to a router, which hooks up to 4 computers. (Mine, dad's, brother's, media)

Setup I'm trying right now:
Same as above, except instead of my computer hooking up straight to the cable model, I put the wireless router in-between.

With the wireless in between, my net still works, and my iPod picks up the router wirelessly too, but I can't use the iPod internet features, and I can't access the router on my computer. I can, however, access the cable router with the default 192.168.0.1.
The default address for the wireless one is 192.168.1.254, but it won't load on my comp. (Or on my iPod)

TL;DR:
My iPod is connecting to Wifi, but not the internet, and I can't access the wireless router's option to try to fix it.

Try changing the router's IP to 192.168.2.1.

Err, how would I do that?

If you plug the PC directly to the wireless router and unplug the router from the cable modem, you should be able to access the control panel from a web browser using 192.168.0.1 (or whatever the default is). From there you can change the IP address of the LAN.

Something along these lines...

Didn't work.

Connecting only the wireless to my computer (which means I should still be able to access the control panel, I assume) still doesn't let me access it.

Hmm...that is odd. If you do Start>Run>cmd  then type ipconfig and hit enter, is the default gateway for your Local Area Connection 192.168.1.254 ?

edit: when plugged into the wireless router

Nope, it's 192.168.0.1, both connected fully and only connected to the wireless.

Ok, so...I replaced the cable router with the wireless router, and could access it using the .254 address. Problem is, the internet didn't work. (LAN did though)

Even when I put the old one back in, the net refused to work. Then my dad figured out we had to update the original router or something..
So basically, I'm back where I started.

A friend of mine suggested a "wireless dongle". Would that do the trick?

Edit: So I followed this guide to get my router into bridge mode, and hooked up separately to the cable router, and it's still not connecting the the internet..

Edit2: Fixed by getting a new router.
