Yeah because it's so worth earning money if it means you have to give up everything else to do so

If that is crying to you then you have to stop posting on this forum or you will be busy...
they are practical if you dont live far away from where you work

Yes I do, but I was also speaking for people who live with girlfriends and or near family, hobbies or even DIY'ers who have put a ton of work into their home

Unless you're renting a shitty place, I imagine the cost of moving closer would far exceed the fuel budget. If anything, buy a more fuel efficient car and drive with that purpose in mind.

You know, I think I figured you out. You're what happens when you take an empty uneducated head and fill it with Michael Moore movies, Fast Food Nation and Planet Green channel. You're like this strange caricature of hipsterdom but without the ability to articulate or make it look cool. You're a weird dude.

I commute 30 miles to work because I refused to live in a liberal county that willing votes in a county income tax, has a DEQ regs., Schools so filled with Mexicans 1/2 the day is taught in spanish and half english, and cost of housing so high due to urban growth boundries I would have had to live in a zero lot line house in a neighbor hood filling up with 3 Mexican family households.

My kids a have a 1/4 acre yard and go to a charter school. I'm glad people like Bravo have no problem living in the City but it is not for me or my family.
Liberal insanity has taken root, this is not the America intended by our forefathers.

No, it's actually precisely what this country was intended to be. Free. People can choose pretty much whatever lifestyle they want as long as they aren't infringing on the life and freedom of others. They can go join a commune if they want or live in a luxury penthouse apartment. They can believe in god or choose not to. That's what freedom means. I think 11B is an idiot and I disagree with most of his opinions but I certainly respect his right to maintain them and live how he sees fit. Now when he suggest enacting laws that force me to follow his ideology, that's when we'll come to blows.

The only way electric cars will become viable in the long run will involve the same public investment that internal combustion cars received for infrastructure.

In the beginning, public money was used to help finance the construction of gas stations and various subsidies and tax breaks were put into place for oil exploration.  The same will have to be done with the construction of electric charging stations.

Of course, this won't happen until oil nearly runs out.  Oil companies have already done what they can to invest in and patent various alternatives to gas cars, so that they can control the release of new technologies.

At this point, consumers don't make the calls here.  The oil companies do.  These minor forays into electric vehicles will remain a niche market just like hybrids, because that's the way they prefer these to be.  They can pretend that they are doing something for the environment.

It's true, gathering the materials for a prius negates the positive effects (if any) that the prius has on the enviroment.

More or less.  They somewhat decrease oil consumption, but then you have to take into account the toxicity of battery production.

Not to mention their mileage is nearly the same as a regular eco-diesel unless you only drive them below 50kph, in which case, you are better off with fully electric...
