Running an airline is fucking expensive. I know for a fact the companies like BA wouldn't make any money on flights if Business and First are empty, even if Economy is rammed. The only reason they run short-haul routes is to feed into the long-haul routes, where they make the money.
You want to get round the world in 20 hours? You gotta pay. You want to get there comfortably, you gotta pay a lot more. Business seats take up at least twice the room of an economy seat, plus they get extra perks.

I flew on one this summer. Tbh, the economy seats are really good tbh. Beat any other plane ive been on. But then I had an entire row to myself so I could lie down ftw.
